Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

The chain liquor store out here is now up to three types of Leinenkugel's, Sunset Wheat, Summer Shandy, and Red. Still waiting on the Honey Weiss.

Random question: I'm flying through Minneapolis two weekends in a row in November. Does anyone know which, if any, bars in the airport have Summit Pale Ale? The smaller bars further down the terminals had a Summit seasonal on tap, but I would prefer the standard. Thanks.

Buffalo Trace. How they manage to sell it for less than $30/bottle still amazes me. Is it lack of marketing expenditures (a la Sobeski Vodka)?

Fuller's ESB - Perfect Breakfast beer at the pub during the EPL Matches.

Picked up the Schell's Stag #1 Shmaltz's Alt tonight (22 oz limited release bottle). Am curious and kind of anxious to try it. Beer fermented in a red wine cask? Odd. Will crack it for tomorrow's MN-UNO game, and report back.

hmmm. Sounds interesting. Would definitely like a report on that. How dark is it? You reckon its a bitter?

Interesting. I just bought a case of the Sam Adams Oktoberfest. My absolute favorite. Just wish they made it all year. Maybe I should buy a bunch of cases to last me a couple weeks! :D

Horrible. Although the Sam's Oktoberfest is their second best beer (after the winter ale), it's not saying much.

I'm actually not as wild about the winter ale. I did enjoy the Bluemoon Seasonal.

Definitely going to enjoy a pint of Fuller's soon. Work has kept me from the Pub...aka my 2nd home...lol

I'd reckon that the wine barrels would balance it out a bit (though if the brewer is worth his salt, you could still taste the hops). Having recently had scotch aged entirely in sherry casks (Macallan 12), I can say that it mellowed out the whisky and made it noticeably sweeter than most of its kind. Granted, that took 12 years of aging, but a well-aged beer (while it can lean towards one side or the other) generally shouldn't run wild in the bitter direction.

EDIT: Actually, it's an altbier, so hops will probably be minimal.

Very Educational

Alas, that must have kept you from the Paulaner Weisn, which was one of the more refreshing beers I've had in a long time...and now it's gone.

Oh, did have a (IIRC) Woodchuck Amber Cider (yes, amber) last Sunday at the OC. Quite good. Little aftertaste you get from a normal hard cider.

I had some Magners Cider last week at the Rapids match. I think I like that one a bit more. Felt it more later that was for sure!

Got some Blue Moon in cans today (probably the last 'summer' beer of the season for me). Tastes almost like getting it on tap. Could be a go-to beer for me next year, if they keep selling it that way.

It was decent. Not worth $7 for a 22oz bottle, though. You could taste the hints of sweetness/wine in it, though, which gave it a really good finish. The wild rice Stag #2 is out, but I'm not chancing $10~ for a sixer to try it. If it's on tap at OC, I may give it a go.

Off to pick up a bottle of Bookers and a bottle of knob creek. Haven't had the latter but extremely excited to try it. Apparently it's a bit sweeter than most bourbons because it's aged for so long.

Knob Creek is indeed tasty.

Oh, and if you have $125 to spend, apparently Balvenie has a 17YO aged in a rum cask. I need to find a bar that has that.
