The Tumbler is a brown ale and imho not very hoppy. In fact SN has become one of my favorite brewers lately given the increased availability of their brews beyond the ale, but if hops aren't your thing I can see why you'd avoid them. The Summit Golden Ale (probably impossible for you to get) is an excellent Belgian and you probably want nothing to do with the Anchor Steam Humming as it's all hopped up.

the grocery store sells Sierra Nevada... I thought about getting it or something else... I bit down on an occasional favorite... Magic Hat #9... its got a really different taste... will have to see what's in it some time... but I do need to work through some of the oktoberfest seasonals and other seasonal items.

Yep, saw that at the local Jewel actually and thought about purchasing it... The $50 is more than I would like to spend on a vodka, but it's **** cool...

Jewel stores still exist?!

Franziskaner is awesome. And if you can find the Paulaner Weisn, that's worth the money.

They are (or were) big-time in Chi-town.

if I found a place with actual variety I would bow down to the god whose hand made such a creation. As it is, no car, no variety.

I can't wait until McDonnell has the ABC stores sold off... i know I'm still subway bound so getting a real badass liquor store going where I can reach it is unlikely, but I think getting a place with a variety of beers will come when stores can sell the spirits as well.

I think you'd like most "Oktoberfest"-style beers, Patman. They focus on malt and are lightly hopped.

I usually do... the hop bit is more dealing with my aversion to hops... the Sam Oktoberfest is the only Sam Adams I'll brink, for instance.

I may take a special trip into the city one of these days... there appears to be some well regarded places with a variety of beers.

Come to Wisconsin sometime. I guarantee you won't go back home sober. Yes, Miller Lite is the generic beer, but there are so many great local hops beers that you might enjoy. I will admit that I am not a huge hops fan, but there are some great brews around here that are making me appreciate the hoppier brews.

I recommend Spaten, Sam Adams, Hacker-Pschorr, Paulaner, and Summit not sure if he can get the latter.

Hacker-Pschorr is my favorite from that list. Paulaner's is a bit more unique, and takes a bit of getting used to. SA is readily available and suffices.

Mmmmm Spaten. Although their best is still the Optimator.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

The last 12-pack I bought (before this one) was SN Tumbler. Very good brown ale, but I made the mistake of drinking one after going to Brown's Pub one night. Seemed terrible and watered-down in comparison.

Magic Hat variety 12-pack is my most recent purchase. #9 is delicious as always. Oktoberfest was different from most. IPA was too hoppy. Haven't had the Odd Notion yet.

"Those Guys" Beer.

When it shows up in your area, don't be fooled. Smells like wet, swollen corn, and tastes like High Life. Drinkable, but "100% Malted Barley" my arse.

This year's Sam Oktoberfest kinda stinks, as did their Summer Ale. Too bad, I usually really like their seasonal brews.

Fortunately, Harpoon's Oktoberfest is fantastic.

Beer snobs are the gayest people on earth. Gayer even than actual gays.

Hey. I like cheap beer (Grain Belt ain't exactly expensive or high quality). I just hate Miller. :p

Gayer than this?

I find that hard to believe.
