Where'd you pick up the Orkney?

Will be heading to Grand Rapids in a few weeks - will be interesting to see what Gary's warehouse has to offer that I haven't seen before.

Haskell's in Plymouth. Only store I know that carries it around here (and I've checked around). I guess BPH has a store in Circle Pines that has it, and has it in their cooler, which is surprising. It's a WONDERFUL scotch ale. Bought it during my spree on Friday, but it wasn't planned when I walked in, unlike the other beers I bought.

Edit: Eagle Liquors in Lino Lakes. Near the back, or in the cooler.

I bottled my first batch of strawberry wine last night. It tastes suprisingly good, for wine. Since I'm not a big wine fan, I don't really know how good it is. I have 4 bottles of the stuff, that I am planning on using as gifts and such. The 2nd and 3rd batches developed a strong sulfer taste, which I learned after some research is due to the kind of yeast I was using. I dumped those batches, and I have to stop at the store and pick up some different yeast, to hopefully prevent that in the future.

Highland Park 12

Best whisky I've had in some time. Surprised by the peat level, since it's not an Islay. Quite tasty.

Why are you making your own wine?

I wouldn't put it past him! I am picturing him with his home made wine and cowboy outfit!

Which reminds me... James May's wine ponce show is on BCC-America on Monday at 10:20... right now they're on the California phase. I first watched the series online while working on my dissertation.

I think once I'm done my work project I may go out and buy a real deal beer kit... but i may do a few things once that's done... we'll see.

Dark Horse Scotty Karate. I cannot tell a lie, I drank it all.

Tried Pendleton whiskey over the weekend. It was sweeter than any other whiskey I've tried, a very odd taste. It was still very good, don't get me wrong. Saw it at the store for about $25.

And finally tried Alaskan White beer tonight. Pretty darn good beer.

I got a sixer of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat this weekend. Eeesh... I like sweeter beers, and that stuff might even be on the far end of what I can take for sweetness.

Last weekend...

Finally tried Makers 46. Dare I say, a Top 5 bourbon?

This weekend...

Jameson 12 year...smooth with no ice/water. Solid, but worth the price? I don't think so.

Maker's 46 is *ing awesome.

And Jameson 12 is good. But I was once told, and have to agree, that if you're going to drop money on Jameson that is not the "regular variety," just go with the 18. And did find that The Cooper Pub (next to Toby Keith's in MN) does have a fine variety of Irish whiskey, and also confirmed that The Liffey's (St Paul near the X) Irish Whiskey Flight (Jameson, Jameson 12, Jameson 18, and Redbreast; one shot each, $20) is a helluva deal.

Both places priced the whiskey similarily to other places I've had those drinks, and basically in The Liffey's deal, you get the Redbreast and Jameson for free. :D (IIRC, J18: $12, J12: $8, Redbreast: $8, J: $6.

Deschutes Twilight Summer Ale

A bit hoppier than expected. A slight nick below your standard Summit beer for hoppiness. Good, but not a session beer for me. It's a 2-3 and you might need something else. 2 were good enough for me before I needed to switch to something else.

I thought it was one of the best summer beers I've had. I had Sierra Nevada's summer today and while SN is one of my favorite breweries it left me wanting more.

Tullamore Dew and game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. A nice combination.
