Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

In "celebration" of Tech losing the Carny series, keeping it winless in 24, and clinching last place for a 3rd year in a row, I pulled out the airplane bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed that I had stashed away in my desk drawer. It felt like the right time.

Honestly, it was good. Like a smoother version of the Kickin' Chicken - still has plenty of bite, but it doesn't slap you in the face like the original. Also has a longer finish.

Tried Magic Hat #9 for the first time this weekend. Great beer; just wish I'd have felt better.

Am a big fan of Magic Hat beers. Their summer beer this year was awesome. BRIGHT RED (sweetened a bit with beets)...It was called Wacko (or whacko).

Really? Can't wait to try it.

And on a different note, it seems that I'm the only one in my family who likes Bell's or other "sipper" beers. I believe beer is to be enjoyed.

Depends on what outcome you're looking for. If you just want to enjoy a good beer or two, sippers are the best. If you want to get *faced, the quality isn't as important.

And I'm going to break my own rule for a sec. 375 ml Pinot Grigio + 375 ml Merlot + train = happy mel. :D

If you want to get *faced, stick with liquor. ;)

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Whoa now. I get more *faced on beer than liquor. No clue why.

Ditto. Beer goes to my head much, much faster than booze. Hell, it usually takes me four large shots to get the same buzz as two beers.

Yep. I get all wonky drinking beer.

Example: a couple of friends and I, who defined Sipper Saturdays, always had the vodka/tonics in play. Almost never beer. If we did have beer, we were pretty much blasmed by sundown.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Weird. I'm the polar opposite, unless it's high ABV beer.

That is definitely a killer for me. Stuff like Ommegang's Three Philosophers and Odell's Deconstruction hit me pretty hard, and I take about two periods of a hockey game to drink them: fill (in this case) pint glass. Refill between periods, so as not to miss any action. I do this with any drink during a Gophers game.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I can't drink enough beer to get *faced, I end up having to switch to liquor before I get to that point. I get full when I drink beer, so I can't drink it fast, thus I switch to liquor, which I drink like it's heaven flavored water.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I like walking into hockey games at least 8 beers deep.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

If you like a spicier whiskey, the George Dickel No. 12 is solid. Certainly better than its cousin from the next town over.

Re-Post from the Rep Lounge...

Seems like my first "brewing" attempt (Mr. Beer... nothing but extract) worked... I haven't tasted it yet, i assumed by the apartment temp fluctuations would be nasty... but it smells pretty good... suppose I should attempt to bottle it... I'm letting it settle before I taste test... then I'll bottle and put it back into the box while it carbonates.

I think this time next year, depends on where I am to a car and a house, I'll spend a few dollars invest in a real beer making kit and a fridge for fermenting.

------

I'd really like to move onto doing more real stuff at some point... but I don't have the extra time and physical energy... but I think I'd like the opportunity to do this seriously... 'cause I like the idea of being able to make your own beer... though it does take time. If I want to start pursuing these things i have to find the will power to get off my butt and be motivated to move around and do these things. I suppose all in time. I'd really like to go all out though... this really seems like something I could have fun with.

Leinie's Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout.

I. Am. Impressed.

Oozes out of the bottle. Thick with flavor. I definitely approve, and I'm rather shocked by this, being Leinie's is generally an average beer at best.

Did you try that Baltka?

I tried Flying Dog IPA tonight. Really good.

It's in the back of Shirtless' truck. We ended up cabbing back on Sat, and MNS gave SoH, bbdl, and Shirtless a ride back to St Paul to get their vehicles on Sunday. That has to be a record. 5 people, 3 vehicles left in St Paul. :D

We can break that record frozen four.

Yeah, that seems to be the best kept secret in the Leinie's product line.
