Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Unless you like really sweet beers, like Baltika 9 sweet, avoid the Grand Teton 2009 Weisenbock release. I'm probably pouring out the other half of the bottle. Yeah, a sad day.

Everytime that I drink Baltika, I curse your name before the first drink. Thanks a lot! :p

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

To be fair, you should curse BPH's name, since he was the one who started the Baltika 9 infamy.

You are the one that gave be the remainder of the bottle for New Glarus. I think that gives me a right to curse your name to some degree.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I curse the Russians. Baltika + any other alcohol = bad hangover

Still, doesn't keep me away a few times a year. :D

I play soccer with a 50 year old Ukranian dude. He was dogging it one day and I asked why. He was hungover from drinking wine mixed with vodka. That just doesn't sound pleasant.

Well, GOOD vodka doesn't really have a taste. So you can mix it with anything. The "taste" was added for the American palette (sp?). It comes down to a matter of smoothness.

Not true. Vodka has a 'taste' that varies by ingredient and distillation and flavors were added well before it ever became an American 'staple'.

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I have seen this happen with my job, not with something as awesome as wine though. It is what happens when you set the shelving on one side of the gondola a lot heavier than the other.

Picked up some Snowstorm, Dark Horse Stout and Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary 750 for the week.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Had a little Woodford during the third period of tonight's Tech game, but now I'm slummin' it with Molson Ice.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Woodford Reserve Bourbon? How is it? I've been eying that for a while.

It's awesome, smooth, and a great sipper.

I did try EC12 the other night. I have to give you credit, it's phenomenal. 2 shots/a cube lasted about 90 minutes or so. Sipper in every aspect of the definition.

:D Try the 18 if you want to spoil yourself. You should be able to pick up a 750 for under $50. Kinda spendy, but it's heaven in a bottle. I'm going to have to try the 12 as well to compare the two. If the 12 stacks up to the 18, I might have a new go to bourbon.

When George T. Stagg comes out next year I'm probably going to grab a bottle and see how that compares. That or Pappy Van Winkle 23 which I hear is pretty much excellence in a bottle.

It's top notch bourbon, though a little hot when you first open it up. It's best to have a glass, then let the bottle sit for a few weeks and try it again.

Drink it with just a splash of water, no ice.

I'm dying to try any of the Van Winkle products, but I haven't found them yet.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I find that's true with a lot of whiskies.

Can't say I've ever drank bourbon with ice.

I've seen the Old Rip Van Winkle in quite a few places. But the Pappy is **** near impossible. I think I'm going to call up my local liquor store when it's released again and see what they can do.

The 18 was only about 30-35 or so, IIRC.

And Fade: I don't do "splash of water." I adjust liquor/cube ratio for that. ;) I like my whiskey/bourbon chilled at the least.

I drink budget (Evan) and mid-shelf (Buffalo Trace, Maker's) bourbons on the rocks, but anything over $30/bottle I treat like scotch. Just a little filtered water - especially if it's over 100 proof.

Yeah, I couldn't remember what it was. All I remember was it was under $50. What did the 12 run you?

I recently paid about $20 for a fifth of the 12 year. It was a good value - displaced Turkey 101 at that exact price point.

The 12 ran me about $20, at Haskell's, who usually doesn't have the best whiskey/bourbon prices (they are mid-range to higher average, at best).

For whiskey/bourbon, I've found that MGM is by far the worst, and Sid's/Big Top are by far the best.
