It's freezing arse cold, but I did manage to hit happy hour. Went with the old standbys: Nordeast and Jameson (no, not mixed).

Sid's on 55 has NB sixers for $6.49 right now.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I'm mixing some kind of whiskey with something else. **** it.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Do you recommend the 18? I found the 12 to be similar to Wild Turkey - manly and brash. The kind of whiskey General Grant was pounding during the Civil War.

18 is brilliant. It's by far my favorite whisk(e)y. You really taste the sugars and vanillin of the oak without being overbearing. Its finish is great and reminds you that you're drinking bourbon. It lingers quite a bit. Fantastic, fantastic whiskey. After finishing a glass of the EC18, I forgot about the glass and left it on the table overnight. That next morning you could really smell the charred oak, not that it really matters :D

I've never had the 12 though so I can't really compare. It was on my list of next to purchase.

I had Blue Point Brewing Winter Ale tonight to celebrate the sweep. Pretty meh. It was good. But I expect more out of a winter ale.

Just got back from a buddy's party. He called it Scotchfest. He bought 12 single malts and every drops $40 in the pot and everyone samples all bottles. At the end, names are drawn from a hat and you pick the scotch you bring home (like a fantasy draft :D ). Fantastic night.

Springbank was the hit of the night. No one really had heard of it, but it was universally liked.

Deschutes Black Butte Porter--This maybe goes without saying since it got an A+ from Beer Advocate, but it was very, very good if you like darker beers. Incredibly smooth.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Have you attempted the Mr. Beer yet? I only got mine down here this week. I'm thinking of trying it out on Monday. The only problem is that for temprature control I'll probably have to run the air conditioner. Yes, its the winter, but I face south and I have these big glass windows that run floor to ceiling.

I've been tied up with some other things, so I haven't put any effort into figuring this out yet... I'm thinking sometime in the next couple of weeks would work however...

That is indeed a fine beer. Love it.

The Tech Fan:

-Add two ice cubes to a rocks glass
-Pour about two shots of Buffalo Trace (just eyeball it)
-Consume
...
-Profit until about 11 AM tomorrow

Can I substitute Elmer T. Lee, Makers 46, Basil Haydens, or Evan Williams Vintage Single Barrel for the Buffalo Trace?

Any sippable bourbon is fine

Correct. Mentioned in Rep Thread, but sipping on Left Hand Fade To Black (smoky Baltic Porter). Very tasty. Also, in celebration of my apparent new position at work, picked up some Bushmill's Black Bush.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I bought a little airplane bottle of Johnnie Walker Black last time at the liquor store. That stuff is pretty darn good.

Black Bush is full of win. Quite possibly my favorite sipper.

I got mine together on Thursday... the wort smelled... well... suspect... not like beer... we'll see what happens... two weeks from last Friday. I'm still looking at doing the real deal at some point. It may have to wait though... temprature control is difficult in my apartment. But, you know, if I can get good at it, that'd be cool. That's a ways away though.

Picked up my first bottle of Jack in a long while heading up to Mille Lacs last weekend for some fishing and forgot how good a simple Jack on the rocks can taste relative to the more expensive and/or heralded bourban/whiskey/single malts/blends one can purchase. I was content.
