Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

During tInvasion I, I was sitting at Vango's, debating which beer I should order. HuskyNation looked at me, told me to "just get the Brown," and it was the best beer I've ever had. Today, I heeded his advice once more, and picked up a sixer of Bell's Best Brown Ale for watching football this weekend.
I'm visiting friends in Alabama for the RPI-UAH games and my friend's dad went and picked up a bunch of different excellent beers. Bell's Best Brown was my first choice and it is dam* good.

Are you sure it wasnt the KBC's Liftbridge Brown? cause I remember the KBC being quite the hit that weekend?

Had a 750 Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary before we went to the restaurant, had some cab at the restaurant with dinner, had a few lowballs of Oban 18 at the party, and the wife sober-cabbed my *** home for a few Snowstorms.

So I just found out that a place some friends frequent up in Chicago is offering a $35 drink package today for the bowl games.... It's just Domestics, call drinks, and wine, so nothing special there... The timing is the deal here... 10am - 2am....

This seems like a challenge... 16 hours of crappy beer for $35...

A bunch of us killed the Balvenie 21YO last night. The liquor store guy was puzzled when I bought it. "You know it's x amount of dollars?" "Yes, I know."

They all loved it, though. Even my buddy's wife, who hates whiskey/scotch.

Kraken rum last night. That stuff is POTENT. And pretty good, especially at only $19 for a 750.

So are the rumors true? It tastes like chicken with a very metallic aftertaste?

How does that compare to other offerings from the Balvenie? I'm a fan in general, never splurged for the 21 year.

Also picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie from some special cask last night. Never opened it, still feeling kinda crappy (I drank about 1/3 of a Dogfish Head and gave up trying to drink), so can't wait to soon.

I bought some of that on a recommendation here, very good.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

**** it all. I had a rum & coke after getting Kraken on my mind again. Stupidly, I just realized, after finishing it, I made it with a pepsi max instead of something with a reasonable amount of caffeine in it.

Depends on your taste. I mean, I prob like the 12yo more, better actual taste (6 years in oak, 6 in sherry casks), while the 21 is aged in oak first, then port wine casks. It's *ing smoooooooooooooooooooooooooth. that's the key. It's like f*ing velvet.

And also, had the Jameson 18 tonight at a bar. They weren't kidding. Jameson 12 is crap compared. :D

I think I've said this before, but I swear they changed the Baltika #9 recipe - it's definitely not as sweet as it used to be.

That's good news. I found the Baltika 9 too sweet unless it was ice cold. And even then...

...but it's still a nice start to a homewreckin' evening. :)

I'm not a huge fan of Jager - it's drinkable, but eh...

However, I just tried my first Dead Nazi. As a big peppermint fan (the Rumple mostly overpowers any other flavor), I liked it.

Man, it's been years since I've had Rumple. One of my old roommates loved Jag, and you would always find our freezer topped off with a bottle of Jag, and a bottle of Rumpleminze. It was always our pre-game shot.

For Christmas, I got a Home Brew kit... Kinda came from left field, but ok :p

I don't have a clue where to begin with this... It's the Mr. Beer kit, and claims to be the #1 home brew kit in the US... What kind of resources are reliable for learning about this kind of thing, and what kind of supplies do I need to look into?

Have you attempted the Mr. Beer yet? I only got mine down here this week. I'm thinking of trying it out on Monday. The only problem is that for temprature control I'll probably have to run the air conditioner. Yes, its the winter, but I face south and I have these big glass windows that run floor to ceiling.
