Powers is a d@mn solid whiskey for $25/liter. This is one of those bottles you reach for when you just want some *ing whiskey at the end of the week/day. A better value than Jameson and a bit smoother to boot, IMO.

Welcome to about 1-2 years ago, when I first mentioned it. :p My parents went to Ireland quite a while back, and they said that Powers is a top whiskey there (as far as popularity). Jameson is what the Americans drink.

And what BPH said. If you're paying $20+ for Powers, you better hope for a reacharound too.

Where do you think I got the idea to look for it? ;)

Yeah, I could see where Powers is the drink of choice for the native Irish. Like I said, will try to find it cheaper, though I will say that the store I got it from almost always has the better pricing of the two I usually frequent. For the record, Michigan hard liquor taxes are quite a bit higher than Minnesota's.

Well, if you're here for the SCSU series, you can stock up. :D

Picked up some Orkney Skull Splitter Scotch Ale today. I had it when I was in WI, and I'll tell you this much: it's wonderful. Hard to find, though.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Bought a bottle of Elijah Craig 18-year as a birthday present to myself. My, that's a very, very tasty bourbon.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

A post-dinner glass of Powers now, maybe some Honey Reserve later. Gotta stay in shape for the suck that will be the GLI. :p

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I still can't find any George T Stagg. Frustrating.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Honey Reserve disappears rather quickly. I think I may lay off booze until the GLI now. :o

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Well, I'm just getting over what is probably the second or third hangover I've ever had. The wop really did me in.

Treated myself to a bottle of the Glenlivet 18. It's wonderful. I'll probably spring for the Balvenie 21 for NYE, to share with the friends I'm with. Can't wait for that, as I know that the B21 is heavenly.

Had Bell's Two-Hearted for the first time tonight; not great, but not terrible either.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Too hoppy for my tastes, but if you're into that sort of thing, it's solid.
Like I said, it wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. Not something I would buy with any regularity.

Also, I found a bar last night that I like. Small, nice and quiet, a couple of big screens, a good menu, and a great selection of beer. And it doesn't hurt that it's only a few blocks from my house.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

too much hops = undrinkable.

I can honestly say the only beer I have ever had that I thought was too hoppy was Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Otherwise, I'll drink anything that isn't light "beer" or Miller.

I'm a fan of Irish Car Bombs... It's also a drink where my liking them tends to bite me in the *** in the end...
Car bombs are great. :D

I don't see what the bartender's ethnicity has to do with anything, and even if it is relevant there's still no call for ethnic slurs.

:D

I am very happy the office is a ghost town right now. That had me laughing out loud.
