Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I have a question that was brought to mind by this recipe: How fresh should eggs be to use uncooked in a recipe like this? Obviously "as fresh as possible" is the easy answer, but if I have eggs that have been in my refrigerator for a couple of weeks is that too long? More than that? (This might be a question for the cooking thread as much as it is for the drinking thread, come to think of it.)

You want your liquid chickens as fresh from the farm as you can get them, IMO. Especially if you plan to use them uncooked. I think two weeks is a bit long.

I picked up some Leinie's Fireside Nut Brown this past weekend. I had some last Christmas and thought it was okay, but this year when I tried it, I thought it was amazing. One of the better beers I've had in a while.

If I'm not mistaken, as long as the eggs are pasteurized, you should be fine as long as the eggs aren't well past the expiration date. I'd try the cooking thread though.

Yeah, pasteurized eggs would be another option.

Brent and I tried the Maker's 46 last weekend. It was very nice.

Local store has Snowstorm 12's for $10.99 right now. Good stuff, Maynard.

Yes it is. A co-worker wants to delve into more creative beers than the bar standards, so he's been asking me about different kinds and such. He was happy with the Snowstorm recommendation. Funny side note: "Is it stronger than a 'normal' beer?"

Thanks for that heads-up

That stuff was so friggin' smooth. And at 94 proof, that was a little surprising.

Another heads-up for the locals: Sid's/Big Top is having a big sale. IIRC, Maker's was $17, Stoli was $18, Bailey's was $14~, amongst many other decent prices. They had an ad in the Star Diaper today.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

The topic of discussion in tLodge has reminded me of my 21st birthday. That night this random guy, who knew it was my 21st birthday, bought me a drink he called the landmine. He said it was called a landmine because it would knock the feet from under you (Sure enough I collapsed on the floor and my friends had to carry me out of the bar). It was in a standard beer glass and was red. To this day I have no idea what in that drink...

Any guesses? I have tried searching for it books and online...to no avail.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I would guess Everclear was used. The rest? Dunno. "Worst" shots (ones that would knock you) that I know of:

Vulcan Mind Eraser: Ouzo/Everclear
Dead Nazi: Rumpleminz/Jag
Three Wisemen: Jack, Johnny, Jim
Four Horsemen: Jack, Johnny, Jim, Jose
Voltron: Jack, Johnny, Jim, Jose, Jerry (Sailor, FTR)

Good call on the Everclear. That would make a lot of sense. As I remember the guy pointed out that the glass was 3/4 full of alcohol. I doubt it was all Everclear...

Rumplemintz and Jag is that bad? I wouldn't have guessed.

I still wish bb_dl had gotten that shot for the Situation.

Also, Prairie Fire and Tidal Wave rank up there with worst shots (the Tidal Wave because it's usually cold as hell outside when someone gets that shot.)

I thought of the Prairie Fire, but that *s you up in a different way. And the Tidal Wave isn't THAT bad. It's bad, but not HOF bad.

And Biddy: Jag is horrid. So anything involving Jag is bad.

Prarie fire wasn't so bad I thought...

Jag is awesome! Especially with root beer!

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Jag is disgusting. Need I remind you of Lewis Black?! 3:47 for the record.

I like Jag, also Prarie Fires are not nice, I had to do one on my 21st, and that'll be the last one, I'm fine with tequila, but with tabasco, that puts it over the top....

Nah they blend together! It is yummy.

I suppose, if you like root beer. I had a bad experience with a drink made with root beer during my 2nd year at NMU, and I haven't really been able to touch the stuff since.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Makes sense that they'd blend together, since I think Jagermeister is a root-based drink (even if Lewis Black has a better explanation), but I'm wary of it too. I like root beer, and I'd like to keep it that way. :p
