Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Picked up my first bottle of Jack in a long while heading up to Mille Lacs last weekend for some fishing and forgot how good a simple Jack on the rocks can taste relative to the more expensive and/or heralded bourban/whiskey/single malts/blends one can purchase. I was content.

Should have bought Evan Williams. I too love Jack, but Evan is half the price, and identical in all other aspects.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Dude, I've had Evan and that wasn't really the point. :)

Oh, I know the "name" game. I don't order a shot of Evan at the bars. ;)

But hanging with friends? I won't think twice. :)

And yes, I also understand the sentimentality of a certain thing. However, didn't realize that was the whole point of your post. :p

The Goat is back. Long live the Goat!

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

No you didn't, but it's all good. :)

Actually, I did. I was pre-occupied with other things at the time, and read your post at face value: beer and booze "snob" drinking a commercially accepted/snob snubbed booze. :D

So, how do you like the apples of THAT particular variety?

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

Underwhelmed by the new Crown Black. Glad I only got a pony bottle.

It's like it can't decide whether it wants to be Crown or Kraken rum, and the result is a mediocre mix of neither.

Yeesh. I'm still holding out hope for my bottle of Cask No. 16.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

For what it's worth, I've heard very few complaints about the No. 16, other than its cost. ;) (lucky you getting as a gift)

I have a theory that after about $100-$150, you really start to get a HELL of a lot less bang for your buck. For instance, the difference between a $20 bottle of bourbon and a $40 bottle is much much greater than the difference between $100 and $150.

I've read many whiskey reviews in the last couple years, and most would tend to agree with you.

Well sure. The 20/40 is 2x the difference. The 100/150 is only 1.5x the difference. You get .5x more bang for the buck in the former case.

Simple Math. (c) Scooby

The same is true for many products/services. The difference between a $5 whore and a $50 whore is much bigger than difference between a $50,000 whore and a $500,000 whore.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

I wonder if there's a rule or law stating this theory... If I could only think of its name. Something obvious. Oh well, I give up.

Yeah, except if you're paying $500,000 for a whore, there's a good chance she's not a whore. Rather, she's probably a sex slave. We all know how that ends:

Well-played.

Don't buy Liam Niesen's daughter. Good rule to have.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: I'm Having A 6-Pack Attack!: Part The Sixth

For tonight and the SB I picked up NB Abbey, Deschutes Black Butte and Tallgrass Oasis Ale. I'm sure most recognize the first two but I have never seen Tallgrass before. Comes in pint 4-pak cans and dare I say it gives any of Surly's hoppy brews a run for their money.

Unless you like really sweet beers, like Baltika 9 sweet, avoid the Grand Teton 2009 Weisenbock release. I'm probably pouring out the other half of the bottle. Yeah, a sad day.
