Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Ummm, what? You can....You know...Drink a good whisky like a man, instead of mixing it like a candyass.

After the Cabernet tonight, I had a couple of Yahara Bay Light Rum & Mango Juice. :p

Capping off the evening with a Kahlua & Coffee. :p:p

I like booze. A lot. But it needs to taste good, whatever form it takes.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Dude, you need to start drinking more. There's nothing wrong with buying that much beer, but there might be something wrong with having that much beer in your home and not your belly.

On another note, I finally improved my old fashioned recipe this weekend, and I did it by having the right equipment and not being lazy.

Previous Old Fashioned recipe:
- Unknown quantity of granulated sugar
- 5 shakes of bitters
- Brandy (yeah, yeah, I'm a filthy Sconnie, etc.)
- Sprite
- Ice
- Maybe a maraschino cherry for kicks

1. Add sugar to bottom of old-fashioned glass.
2. Shake bitters over sugar
3. Like an idiot, try to muddle with a dinner spoon because you have no other option. Maybe add the cherry.
4. Add ice, pour in brandy, then top with Sprite, mix with the same **** spoon.

New, Improved recipe:
- 1 sugar cube, because you have to stop being an idiot at some point
- 3-4 shakes of bitters, because I actually should taste the alcohol
- Brandy
- Club soda, because the Sprite made everything taste lemony. Plus, let's be honest, the Sprite is a little gauche.
- Ice
- A maraschino cherry, because I still had two in my jar and I have a weak spot for those little ********

1. Add sugar cube. So much simpler.
2. Shake bitters over sugar, add a touch of club soda to help dissolve everything.
3. Add a cherry, because you're still a weak little softy.
4. Stop being a savage and own a muddler. Holy balls does this make the muddling process go more smoothly.
5. Add ice, pour in brandy, then top with club soda. Mix with a mixing spoon (see earlier comment about not being a savage).

A lot of it was from the holidays. We buy a bunch of Wisconsin beer when we visit my fiance's family, so that explains the New Glarus, Milwaukee Ale House and Lakefront. Also, I got some for Christmas, that I haven't tapped into yet. Lastly, I have remnants from past 6-packs that I bought for my family's holidays, and also some random bottles left over from other 6 pack purchases. The bombers I've bought when I find them, and think they sound good, then drink them when I'm in the mood.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Had this beauty to celebrate the New Years. 18.9% bourbon barrel aged imperial stout that's as smooth and tasty as a Brazilianed undercarriage.

The only thing I have that is not ear-marked for a future occasion is my Schell's Framboise du Nord, but that is still available most anywhere.

IF you crack that $$$$ Orkney, I'd just like a sip, just the sip, to see how it feels. ;)

Probably will stop at a store on the way up from work, to see if anything stands out.

I'm saving you a Lucky Bucket Certified Evil...I think you'll like it. ;)

Moonshine cherries!

We found these at a moonshine place when we were down in KY and TN. They just recently showed up in our local liquor store. Woot!

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

I've had a pitcher under by bottle opener for a while, and it is now full. Any guesses as to which brewery has the most caps in that pitcher? :p
I plan on counting them, and I'd give a bottle of good beer to someone who guesses it right, as long as you come to my house to get it. I have an idea of which will be the most, but I'm not certain.

Founders?

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

My guess was New Belgium, with New Glarus a close second.

Had the Central Waters Bourbon Stout last night at bbdl's, it was luscious.

After a few sips of the Certified Evil, I had enough. Too raisin-y.

bbdl also let some of us have a sip of this bad boy: http://www.sinclairbreweries.co.uk/specialist_ales_dark_island_reserve.html Holy f* was that good. I had bought a bottle of it on the way to his place last night, when I happened to see it at one of the local stores by his place. I had to think about it at first, as it's $43/bottle, but after trying a sip of his....so glad I bought one.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

Norm's Raggedy A55 IPA from Griffin Claw, a brewery in Birmingham, MI that just recently put their beer on the shelves in pint cans. Pretty good IPA, but I don't know about that 2010 World Beer Cup Gold they're claiming. They also make a red ale.

Re: Official Drinking Thread: 7&7s for Everyone!

The Orkney Dark Island Reserve was nothing short of amazing.

I'm going to count my bottle caps now.

You called the winner. We both had the top 3 correct, though.

New Glarus has been my favorite local micro of mine for quite some time. Being just down the road from here, brewery tours are a good thing to do and there is an Oktoberfest in the town of New Glarus where all of the tap beer is theirs.

A surprising (to me) amount of people come to that even from out of state.

I really wasnt too impressed with their brewery "tour" self guided walk around the brewery with a beer in hand. The stairway to heaven was a huge disappointment.

Had a Central Waters Brewers Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout, amazing.
