Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I don't know about the media guide, but here is the prospectus. (I also don't know the difference between the two:p )

Two different things. Everything in the prospectus is in the media guide, but the media guide is 160 pages. It's amazing that I was able to read it front to back in about an hour and a half, but yet it takes me three hours to read 50 pages for class. :p

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Lots of comments about an exhibition game. I'll keep it brief:

1) Nicastro played a solid game I thought. The best one of the freshmen IMHO. Otherwise they looked a few steps too slow, like they were mailing it in. No big deal, just get it together by opening night.

2) I don't think Pereira belongs buried on the 4th line.

3) What's up with all this whining about the food? What do you expect at a sports arena? All you should be asking is, how did the Sam Adams taste, and was it cold? Although, I do think they might have raised the price...

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Is anyone able to confirm that the banner ceremony will start at 7pm and the game will start whenever the ceremony is done?

I can totally imagine them doing the banner thing at 6:45 and me getting there at 6:55 having missed everything...

Gracias!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

So I learn this morning that the StFX goalie from Saturday's game, Perricone, played five years of Major Junior for Moose Jaw in the WHL - including 3 years as their #1 goalie, and spent last season playing for Bakersfield in the ECHL.

Thus I feel it shouldn't come as a total surprise that he played as well as he did. After all he's spent the past six years playing hockey at a very high level.

Wasn't there something on the jumbletron about being in your seats by 4p next Saturday?!?!? :p

(yes, I am exagerating, but I vaguely recall this prompt)

6pm. I'm guessing the game will still start around 7. Nobody is going to know about this, everyone is going to be unhappy, and somebody is to blame.

I'll be sure to get an exact time for the banner raising at some point this week.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard the banner ceremony starts at 6:09pm. I guess it's pretty hush, hush.

there will be like 20 people in the stands at 6 p.m. can it really take a whole freaking hour to raise a few banners?

I think the reminder for 6pm was just to let everyone know that it is ok to show up an hour early and you can get in. Still that should be something they should put up everywhere. I could see a banner ceremony starting at 7pm and lasting 30 minutes. One of the reasons they had for doing this during an exhibition game was they did not have to worry about any time constraints. As long as they let the U18 team know how long it will be.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I have it on pretty good authority that the banner raising will be conducted on Friday afternoon prior to practice. The ceremony will be taped and it's the tape that will serve as the basis of Saturday night's activity.

3) What's up with all this whining about the food? What do you expect at a sports arena?

What do I expect? Not much, to be honest. A hot dog that has been cooked recently is a good start. A bun that is not so dried out that you wonder if it has been toasted would seem to be a pretty simple thing. A bowl of fresh chopped onions and sauerkraut should also be within the grasp of any sports arena.

An ability to serve more than one cup of ice cream every two minutes should also be something any arena can handle.

Yet, Agganis Arena fails at each of these simple tasks. They fail every time. These are staples of any arena. Even the Garden gets this mostly right and their food sucks. Every single venue I have ever been to for a sporting event, from church league basketball at the Immaculate Conception Annex to Schaefer Stadium in the 1970s does a better job than Agganis. This ****es me off.

And yes, this is serious business.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Just read the excerpt. Great stuff. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest!

Thanks! If you liked the excerpt, then you'll really like some of the other "inside stories" in the book. My favorite might be when Jack decided to "air the dirty laundry" after the Northeastern ties, confronting the team about their petty concerns about which player was which coach's favorite, who might make the Hockey East All-Star team, and so on.

There is not much profanity in the book, but that section would really suffer without it!

Matty Gilroy just scored his first NHL goal, on Brodeur, no less :) :) :)

Followed immediately by two more grade A chances. Pando had an assist on the first Devils goal.
