Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

everyone has done a pretty good job of summing up last nights game but i do want to make a few comments.

gryba looked great. other than his turnover, i loved watching him play. it looks like he's taking the A on his jersey very seriously and is stepping into the leadership role.

love millans pads.

Kraus made a few really nice saves. i was sitting directly behind him for the first goal, and there was a defender right in front of him so there is a chance he never saw that shot.

pereira looks likes he's working hard for that spot on the 2nd line. good for him.

i'm not really concerned with how we played to be honest. it was the first official day of practice. they have not practiced as an entire team with all of the coaches yet. i'm positive that things will be cleaned up a bit by next week.

and the opening video... LOVED it when they put up the number of Beanpots, HE titles, HE Championships, and NCAA Championships as of last year and then updated them to reflect the current totals. brilliant.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

StFX is a middle-of-the-pack team in the eight-team AUS (Atlantic University Sport) conference of the CIS. That is a complement, since the AUS is the most competitive of the three conferences in the CIS. The first place team last year was the University of New Brunswick (UNB), who despite losing the AUS championship to Saint Mary's (SMU) went onto Nationals thanks to the rotating wildcard and ended up winning their second University Cup in three years.

Back to "X". Their veteran goalie, who was capable of stealing wins, has graduated, so a lot of pressure is on highly regarded recruit Joey Perricone, who played four years with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors. Their three best defencemen have graduated as well, so the new guys will take some adjustment. They have had a good recruting class, so they'll be in the thick of it, I think.

If you've seen any AUS teams before, there will be similarities. Visors, not full face protection. Older and often bigger than NCAA players, but not as quick. X plays with a bit of an edge, and are one of the more physical teams in the AUS, and a typical hard working team.

Of course, there are no NHL first round and second rounders playing in CIS teams ...

ah, last year's team played these aforementioned UNB team and beat them 4-1 a week before opening our eyes vs the sioux and sparty.

at no point last year did i feel that they needed an excuse. an, "hey, it's only an exhibition game." or "they haven't even practiced yet".

at every point last year i expected them to score when they needed to. late when behind. early when tied.

at some points last year players took stupid penalties, sure. at no point was it one of the captains in the final minutes with a one goal lead.

luckily, for us and some of them, we know how things go when the team is serious and plays with a purpose from day 1. we also know how things go when teams treat games as "exhibitions" and will 'work on things later'.

will i change my tune after a run of BU 4-1 v USNDT, BU 5-1 @UMass, BU 4-2 v Notre Dame, & BU 4-3 v UMich?!?! yep.

but i'm too old. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice...

(and that's pretty cool that our boys also knocked off the Canadian National Champions too;) )

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this...anyone else notice Jim Pryor's major flub on announcing the national anthem singer? "So and so...a senior in the Boston College College of Fine Arts"

The flub of not playing "Oh Canada" kind of overshadowed that.

Practicing together for a week might just make a big difference when there is this much turnover in the lines. Last year the lines were simpler, guys had already played together for a couple years in multiple stints. This year, lots of guys who didn't get much ice time or who were on lines with guys who've departed. No need for excuses. Wait for next week.

looks like BC just beat the X-Men 4-1, on 40 shots. Muse started (5 saves,1 GA) and played the duration of the first period it seems, and they played their other 2 'tenders for the remainder of the game. I vaguely remember York, in his hockey east coaches meeting interview, saying that they def expect Muse to be back earlier than they had anticipated..

After overplaying Muse to originally cause injury, they throw him back out there this early?

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

and since nobody else mentioned this, i'll add it (;) ).

after the game, bonino came off the line and was the first to head into the locker. he had his helmet off as his stepped onto the runway. crisco was a couple behind him and said something toward the bench and lifted his left hand with stick and kinda turned.... i assumed he was asking if anyone was going to follow John and Matt last year, saluting the crowd.

again, not your recently graduated brother's terriers.

The team last year only saluted the crowd after victories, not after ties or losses, a move which was met with mixed reactions by fans on this board. How quickly the past turns into lore and the humans into immortals...

My videos end before evidence can be gathered. I don't remember, I usually was looking away in disgust when we lost last year. :p

I think that they are still working out the details, but I believe that they will have 500 on hand for starters.

Just read the excerpt. Great stuff. I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest!

Looks like a question for 3hock. I could be wrong, but I do remember having a conversation with someone (in person, not here) that if they are going to do it they should definitely do it after every game, the fans are there whether you win lose or tie. However, it is possible they just forgot it once and that was the event I was recalling and they did it the other 5 home games that weren't wins.

i'm not saying you're wrong... i just don't remember it that way.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Did someone recently post a link to a database showing all former BU hockey players with NHL experience? I think I recently saw this yet forgot to bookmark it, and I wanted to refer to it as I update the BU hockey wikipedia page.

I know BU issued a press release on the # of BU hockey players in the NHL, but that's not what I"m thinking of. I seem to remember it being the kind of online database that gets updated frequently. If anyone knows what I"m talking about it, I'd love to see the link again.

Interestingly, BU counts some WHA players in their NHL total, though I decided to leave those out in the Wikipedia article.

one other thing: is the 09-10 media guide online yet?

Ya gotta love Terrier Nation. Four pages after an Exibition game. Thanks for all the info guys.

Anyone else steamed that BU Grad Kevin Paul Dupont did a story today about the 14 former Eagles in the NHL?  ;)

So, what is the story on the Canadian National Anthem snub? Someone just forget?

im 100% positive they never saluted after a loss, and the only time i think they might have done so after a tie was the bc december tie. but they did not at all after uvm.
