Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed!

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

Forwards are stacked for the coming years but I'm concerned about our lack of top-end D depth.

How highly regarded are Sieloff and Hamilton?

It would be nice to have a legitimate scoring threat from the blue line for a change. Just going off stat lines, Sieloff is another stay at home guy, Hamilton a little more on the offsensive side with a 8-22-30 line last year.

Watching our defensemen adapt to a more offensive-minded role last year was painful at times...the majority of those point shots didn't even come close to the net.

Both are very well regarded, particularly Hamilton...who is also a flight risk I might add...

Both players are in the USNTDP so they come with that pedigree as well.

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

With 5 commits in the USNTDP pipeline, it would seem that we are set for some nice wait and see off-seasons the next couple years.

All the recent articles make Barber and Hartman seem like very solid commits, whatever that is worth a year out.

I believe Hamilton is a '95, so he is two years away. Sieloff is a '94 so I assume he will be here next year, barring other developments. :) Both are good gets for MU, obviously. I guess we have been spoiled over the years with offensive defensemen (e.g., Boyle, Greene, Ganzak, Martinez), but I think Wideman and Schilling are good threats (about 40 pts between them last year). Of course this year, the d willl be operating with different forwards who will not be as automatic as Miele, Camper, and Cannone. Should be interesting.

Hartman trying to accelerate to be here next year. He'll be 17 when he arrives if he does accelerate, although he has a September birthday. Makes one think back to Dustin Whitecotton who graduated at barely 20 and played four productive years for Miami. If a kid is good enough on and off the ice to do that, it's a great opportunity to play three or four years against good competition and older players, get a degree or most of it, and still start the pro thing at a young age. That's more or less what Martinez did too.

With these higher profile recruits, it will be interesting to see how all this plays out over the coming years. I sure hope there are some undrafted Andy Mieles, Carter Campers, Ryan Hartmans, Pat Cannones, etc. in the mix also.

Random thought: What's the over/under on the NCHC having shootouts?

My guess would be slim to none seeing as we are the only club coming in right now from the ccha until ND signs up. But even then I don't think they will have them. They were such a crapshoot and teams would just go into a shell hoping for the tie and a bonus point.

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

La la la la la 26 days....

I would bet against the shootout as well. Unless there has been a movement within the the WCHA that I haven't read about to institute it, I don't see any of the teams making an issue of including a shootout in the new leauge. Considering our shootout history, I'm not sure we have much inventive to make a push for it.

Soooo uhhh.. to the miami 'fan' who had enough balls to anonymously send me this: "Go **** off and die. Seriously, walk into traffic"

it's cute

You know me better than that...if I were to envoke a death wish it would involve mauling by goldendoodle puppies and a rapid panda bear.

Was it you that drove RHM away??!?! Here I was thinking I had something to do with that ;)

Also, gtfo of my seat. I have no social life to speak of, I'll be at every game this year. You can have RicoforPres', I don't think he's making the commute from San Fran, just a hunch.

I know I haven't been around long and someone wants me to die, but aren't those titles after "Official Season thread" really dumb?

You must be a "Paper Science" Major. Or, as the rest of us like to say..."boring as hell with no creativity."

Haha. Economics Major so I am a natural contrarian. If people are hell bent on going the creative route I think someone should come up with something witty about the last ccha season

You'll have to save that for 2012-13.

Well, I was at the Big House last night for the ND game and according to the Michigan PA announcer they will be begin playing hockey in the B1G in the 2012-2013 season. Who knew ?

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

Looks like the "M" jerseys are out this season. "Miami" on Friday, Hawkhead from the contest on Saturday (ew).

I'm a fan of the design, I just strongly dislike the hawk, especially with the "Miami Redhawks" text included.

Agreed, I think just the hawk logo would look nice, but the text has to go.
