Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed!

Didn't have college plans as of January. Wouldn't seem like he's going to be seeing the ice anytime soon/be more than a warm body in reserve for the year. But you never know.

Be that as it may, keep in mind that some kid a few years ago was brought in mid-season to shore up a thin front line, scored in his first shift, and went on 3 years later to win the Hockey Heisman. I'm sure no one knows who that is...

Not sayin, just sayin.

10 former memebers of the Brotherhood (and Danny Boyle) starting NHL camps today. Best of luck to all of those fighting for a roster spot!

Lots of buzz around Miele from the Phoenix media thus far. Aside from constantly talking about his size, the coaching and conditioning staff for the Coyotes have had nothing but praise for his work effort and creativity. He did his thing in rookie camp without missing a beat, Tippet and co. just in wait and see mode on how well it translates to playing with the pros. Of course with all-stars such as hold-out Kyle Turris - Miele has an uphill battle to breach the immense depth that franchise has accumulated at center

Looks like there are spots to be won in San Jose with Wingels mentioned as being in the mix for one of the 4th line positions.(Article)

Not sure if Mercier/Palmer have any kind of shot at making a roster out of camp - but hope they make a good impression and get their chances through call-ups this season.

Camper had a strong rookie camp, and expectations seem pretty high for him to be a significant contributor in Providence this season. Haven't read much about Cannone, and iirc Zatkoff was the #2 in Manchester last season.

The kids are all grown up *insert joke about birds leaving the nest here*

Speaking of Miele being in the 'Yotes Camp, since when has Andy Miele been either 5'-9" or 180 lbs.?!?! hahaha!!! I know teams inflate these numbers, but dang!

Haha, 125 points in tUSHL vs. they guy who wrote Rico a nice letter asking for a tryout once he got on campus...I can dig it, let's call him Shayne Baker ;)

And no kidding about the inflated numbers lol. I know he worked quite a bit this summer, so the weight could have gone up, but I think he's a little past his growth spirt years.

Miels was already committed before he was brought in mid season because of our injuries

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

Less than two weeks to go. 5 things on my mind that have nothing to do with hockey:

1. Warmups: Carter, you dropped the ball my friend. Pre-game mix last year just didn't cut it. I realize it was hard to follow up the epicness that was Wingels' Shiny Toy Guns pump up extravaganza, but I wasn't feeling the top 40 approach. I'm expecting big things from The Hirsch/Awesome Alden and Will "insert Chuck Norris joke here" Weber. Playing the warmups at the end of roadtrips to each game just wasn't the same last season. That needs to change.

2. Pre-Game: The video last year rocked. I got chills. Everytime. Good work, keep it up. The smoke was a nice touch. This year, I want fire. I don't want to hear about ice and the issues involved. Fire. If that is truly not possible I guess I can settle for strobe lights and lasers. Let's get ridiculous :p

3. Post-Game: Would love to see more students stay for the alama mater. This won't happen. Moving on.

4. Life after the Scalp Song: If they play Bad Boys one more time, I will throw something on the ice, possible a small animal if there is one in the vincinity I can grab before the game. Unless I missed it that, "student input" the athetlic department was going to seek regarding a replacement never happened, suprise suprise. Please come up with a song that we can tack the wave and Cya..."meany" back onto. Bad Boys is cliche, stupid and frankly embarrassing.

5. Get the little ones in the stands It seems like student support has been dropping off the past couple seasons. Games that would have been full 45 minutes before puck drop even 2 years ago, didn't fill up until half way through the 1st period last season. Find a way to incentivize the freshmen to make it out to games, through corridor activites or whatever. Once they get in the building you know at least some of them will be hooked.

Im going to punch my next friend in the face that gets married on our opening weekend, or this one, I still have time to decide

Lucky for me my friend is getting married in Hamilton Oct 8th. It gave me an extra excuse to make the 8 hour trip for Friday's game :D

You mean a couple games against the Beavers wasn't enough of a reason to drive 8 hours, weak :p

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

So I have some questions about watching Miami games online. I'm working on the west coast and probably won't be able to get home for Friday games before they end. Do I have the ability to go back and watch games from the beginning on this little web site? Anyone that has any previous experience and could lend me a hand I would appreciate it.

Your best bet for a quick answer might be to go onto http://www.miamihawktalk.com/home and ask "Voice of the Redhawks." Due to his position, he knows pretty much everything about the Miami All-Access.

Agreed, BakeForPresident. I can ask for you.

However, I believe the answer is no. If a replay is available it would be highly likley that it would not be available until the next day, or at the very least a few hours after the game.

From the source:

In the past, because of staffing and time considerations, we have not archived the games. This year, however, i do plan to try and archive all of our broadcasts for future viewing.

Take that however you may. Not sure what the time frame would be.

Quite a first game our boy had last night. 1-2-3.

Can we do some research to see if he scored on his first shift in the USHL :)

Still think there are going to be significant growing pains on offense, I hope we will come on strong after the Rico Swoon and make a run at #1 towards the end of the year, but I don't see that ranking lasting very long out of the gate.

11 days!!!!

may take some time for the offense to gel but we've had one of the top team D in the country the past few years so they'll keep us in games. Some scary talent up front so shouldnt take em too long to click, hopefully
