Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Yay, we can improve our all time record at Yost to 5-??-?.

Making my first trip to the old barn this weekend, whoop whoop.

Edit: We are 5-43-1 all time at Yost.

I don't put much stock into these stats anymore. WMU, OSU and Miami share the same past (against Michigan, especially at Yost) and yet it hasn't had much impact on the results at Yost this season or the last few seasons (save 2008.)

Michigan is 69-26-4 all time against the Hawks/Skins and much of that 43-5-1 at home was built against a less than competitive Miami side.

Yost is still special and it won't be easy coming in, but consider that Michigan is only 9-5-1 at home this season (lost games to WMU, OSU-2, N'Eastern & Union. Tied LSSU.) They are 2-2 against Miami in the last four meetings there. Overall, Michigan is 0-3-1 in the last four meetings, 1-5-1 in the past seven, 4-7-1 in the past twelve and 6-10-2 in the past eighteen going back to 2005. (Sorry, not counting SOW's as true wins.)

I'm not sandbagging here, but I suspect that Enrico knows how to get his team ready for Michigan. I can only hope that Jon Merrill's presence will make a difference compared to the series in November, and that Miami will not be allowed to lay the lumber like they did at home. We'll be ready for tBrotherhood and so will the Children of Yost. :)

Our guys are usually ready to go for Michigan, there is always a much higher level of intensity in their play - goes along with skating against who you consider to be your main rivalry, albeit a pretty one-sided one from a fan perspective. Not sure how Michigan's players feel about Miami.

As far as laying the lumber, well, to paraphrase a certain CCHA referee at an Oxford drinking establishment after a Michigan game sometime in the last few years, when he was prodded about a non-call against Michigan, "Don't give me that sh*t, we handed you guys that game tonight!" :)

Maybe he'll be in Ann Arbor this weekend...

Just, don't throw anything at me!

I think the Hawks have caught not only our team's attention, but the fans as well. I think we'll have the Hawks for the next four regular season games at Yost ( I imagine that next season the schedule will have Miami in A2 for two games and we won't be in the cluster) which will probably be our last go around for awhile since we are each departing for new conferences-so we'll try to make it a lasting memory. Rivalry? More like a nemesis the last few seasons, more so than OSU and MSU- but you are correct, purist Michigan fans won't see it that way. The way they see it, everyone hates Michigan, anyway. I think your program's credentials require respect, though- but maybe not at the same level as your fans think it should because we did make it to the top of the mountain a few times.

I can only imagine what it would be like to have a younger Red going against Blasi. It would be similar to the war of words that used to go on between Frank Anzalone at LSSU and Michigan back in the late 80's-early 90's. That was fun. So yes, thinks have heated up and I expect them to be warm this weekend, too.

Officiating in the CCHA is like water finding its level. Sooner or later it will come back and bite you if you were given breaks. Those comments do not surprise me, though. I did a study of the officials that have done our games this season and the records. I hazard to guess we'll see Pochmara and/or McInchak. They have a combined 20 Michigan games this season, with Michigan going 13-6-1. The ones I don't want to see: Langseth (1-2-1), Philo (2-4-1), Lacina (0-1-1) and Wilkins (2-1-3). We've only seen Hall once (1-0) and Sergott twice (1-1). Hill (4-2), Gawlik (2-0) and Aaron (3-1-1) may also be assigned this weekend. We have not seen Tocco, Berkebile or Kronforst for official games. As far as I know, there are no more "we want Shegos" to be had. ;)

Throwing things? Not in my section. We have the yellow jackets keeping the visitors in check, first. ;)

This is the annual "Boys Weekend," and for the first time in a few years, I can't make it. Of all places, I'll actually be in Oxford, so hoping to catch the games uptown or, worst case, on the computer.

The RedHawk Grill has been kind to us over the past two trips to A2 and is, naturally, the anointed Miami bar. :P

Very fair statement. For the most part Miami hockey fans are just that, Miami hockey fans. Completley oblivious, and uninterested in college hockey as a whole. You could poll students who wait 6+ hours in line for every game, and the majority would have never heard the word "pairwise", or until last season might have told you "Hobey Baker" was a type of candy bar. Telling them that Bowling Green, Lake State and Northern Michigan can all lay claim to a far more prestigious progam history than us tends to go over like a lead balloon. I don't think this is any way unique to Miami, but it does lead to some distorted oponions about our place in the college hockey hierarchy.

Stake out a table at b-dubs early!

Speaking of b-dubs, if there is a place called the RedHawk Grill, why is the Miami Alumni event at the A2 b-dubs? Very, very weak.

Well we know that Marc Dessroisers (sp?) is going to be one of the linesman

Speaking of Hobey Baker... Where the hell is a replica at the rink? Did we really not buy one? Basketball not playing any money games this year, theyd still be 2-15 or whatever, might as well make some money while theyre at it. Im sure the 1,000 at millett wont care to ot watch an home tennessee state loss when we can lose at kentucky and get paid.

I'm sure moulatt has a chart to explain why the AD's support of the men's club rugby team has placed an unconciable burden on the women's field hockey team team to bring in buy money, in turn causing cuts for tennis funding, which ultimatley exlainins why we did not have the money to purchase a Hobey.

Am I doing it right?

He'll have to settle for watching The National on CBS Sports in 2 years. Maybe that money can pay for the Hobey AND our hockey plane.

Congrats to Reilly for another CCHA player of the month.

(first page bump)

Does anyone know if Schilling is making the trip this weekend?

It sounds like the money will be going the wrong direction on that deal. But in my mind it's still worth it.

Congrats to Cody Reichard on being named a finalist for the Humanitaian Award and Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Pretty impressive double, Cody.

His program gives sick children a chance to get out of the hospital and attend a Miami game. I've always been very impressed with his dedication to making a difference in the community. Well deserved, Cody.

Funny watching that clown on western college hockey blog make fun of the deal then realize cbs sports is national not like your onn or fox rocky mountain (unless you have the super sattelite package). He reconsidered his comments pretty quick

I stopped reading WCHB over the summer. I'll never tell anyone to stop complaining about the NCHC, they have every reason to still be ticked off, but the blog lost all entertainment value for me when it became a soapbox for the "LOL NaCHO" crowd.

Kawww kawww :o
