Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Well I've already bailed.

What the heck is Reichard doing out there?

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Since December...

Knapp
6-2-0
.953 GAA
.940 SV%

Reichard
1-4-0
3.56 GAA
.867 SV%

The Northern shutout was an anomaly last weekend, Saksa could have had the shutout with Northern having 2 quality chances the entire weekend.

We've played some bad games this season, but this was by far the most painful to watch IMO. Other than part of the 2nd period, Michigan just dominated us. nothing seemed to be going right. Reichard looked terrible in net. We seemed to pass the puck directly to Michigan players as often as our own guys. It felt like every Miami skater was out there trying to make a big play rather than playing smart and playing as a team. I have NEVER seen Rico so angry. I couldn't believe it when he walked out on the ice after the final buzzer to grab McKenzie by the facemask and yell at him. I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant post-game locker room atmosphere, but hopefully they can turn it into some motivation to play their game and get the split tomorrow to win the season series.

Womp womp. Murphy or Cook will make their return to the lineup tomorrow night. McKenzie will be watching from the bleachers.

Any news on the broadcast about what happened to Mullin?

Took a knee to knee in the neutral zone after he side stepped the defenseman

Can anyone comment on the "running the goalie" issues? The Michigan thread is all worked up about it, but I seem to recall Michigan players shoving our guys into Hunwick on 2 of the 3 claimed "running the goalie" occasions last night, as reflected by the fact that Miami actually got a powerplay out of one while another resulted in a 4x4. But I was watching in a crowded bar and may have missed whatever is leading to anger (including Red saying he's going to send tape to the league offices).

I'm not saying our boys played like angels last night, because that is definitely not the case, and it's clear that their frustration was bleeding out. However, my Red-and-White-colored glasses didn't catch a pattern of egregious attacks on Hunwick.

Well we got seriously pegged back in the PWR rankings, anything less than a win tonight and we may be in some trouble assuming Alaska can't work themselves back in.

And seriously Rico, no more Reichard please?

Their credibility with regards to "running the goalie" calls took a bit of a dive in my opinion when they played us in Oxford this year. On our first goal Hunwick went down and everybody was crowding the ref looking for a call. Looking at the replay he got side-swiped by his own defender. Honestly I'd just chalk it up to an intense and physical game.

McKenzie was cross checked into Hunwick, but he didn't go out of his way to stop from getting a good lick on the little guy as he went down. So I guess that's 50/50.

Another one Hunwick literally laid down in the goal and took his helmet off when there was no one within 5 feet of him. I thought I was watching a soccer match.

I left with a minute to go, so I missed whatever transpired at the end. It does sounds like Curtis ran him per Rico's reaction.

The reason Rico reacted was because Curtis refused to line up to shake the other team's hands. He tried to skip the line and go straight to the locker room and that's when Rico grabbed his helmet and shook him. And in regards to the last fight Curtis got shoved down onto Hunwick and was literally being beaten to a pulp by the Michigan guy until the ref got between them....

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

I guess no one is going to mention that Coleman got called for charging Hunwick with less than a minute to go and got a 5 minute major and a gamer. . But I guess he was crosschecked into him.

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

We'll see how the discipline is tonight. On at least three plays (hack MacKenzie, Vogelhuber and Coleman) the Miami player went into Hunwick like they were a fullback in football leading with the shoulder clearing a path. No one tried to ease up (MacKenzie/Vogelhuber) after being hit, by spreading their arms apart to minimize or lessen the contact.

Rico should have went all Three Stooges and dragged MacKenzie, Weber and his purse and Coleman off the ice by their facemasks.

Is this the #1 strategy by Miami, Notre Dame and Northern now?

I'm not denying that the Coleman charge was bad. It was. It shouldn't have happened. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

However, that was the only legitimate "charging the goalie" occurrence that I saw. Yes, after the first cross-check into Hunwick, the Miami player clearly played it up and finished the check into him, and that's why it was a 4x4... both the Michigan player and Miami player in the box. I don't think the second occurrence was even close though, and the resultant Miami PP reflected that. Miami player got shoved directly into Hunwick and there was no way he had time to "ease up." Not that it justifies any of it, but the Miami boys were undoubtedly frustrated and made some very stupid decisions. Tempers always flare when these two teams play. Michigan has committed its fair share of "stupid" penalties and "gooned it up" in recent years when they were on the other side of a tilt. That's what happens when you throw together two aggressive teams who view one another as rivals.

All that aside, Michigan put on a clinic for Miami last night. Hopefully the RedHawks show tonight that they actually learned something.

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

I understand that UM had plenty to be upset about last night re: the goalie running situation, but I can't believe that almost every article I've read about the game brings up Hunwick's size, as if it is somehow worse to run him at 5'6" rather than a beanpole like Knapp.

Guess their defenseman Pattern better think about that before hitting C Mac. They must have forgotten the days of Jack Johnson

Well if you charge into Knapp you'll probably just bounce off. :p But you're right... it's not really relevant. Running the goalie is the problem, not the relative size of the players. Besides, Hunwick has shown plenty of times that he's willing to stand up for himself.

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Well, even if we win out the rest of our games I think we would still need some help to get an at-large bid at this point (assuming tonight is a lost cause).

This sucks.

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

I wish the refs could have seen the no goal from the angle they showed us on TV. It definitely should have been in. And Chris Brown's goal - I'm not even sure what to say there was no stopping that kid.

Probably had more Michigan alums reffing our games again. This game was horse****. Weakest hook I've ever seen with who was it, wahlberg losing his edge in the corner, missed the spearing, missed the goal. Let's just hope these clowns of crews make their way to the Big Six conference.
