Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

We don't call it douchbaggery down here - we call it defending our goalie, maybe you guys should work on that. And yeah you got 6 points from us this weekend so why don't you all just calm down and stop complaining

I think Streaker was talking about Miami buzzing Michigan's goalie. That would be what I call doucebaggery.

We're going to have to break out some Anchorman clips here pretty soon.

That would be what I call hockey. It happens. Especially when these two teams meet.

The hockey happened between the whistles. Everything else, from both sides, at best could be called one-upsmanship.

Front page article about the Michigan series, the quotes from the players seem pretty sensible. They all realize that it's an intense series that sometimes boils over. Berenson, on the other hand, sounds a bit delusional.

Anyway, UAH should be a good series for the team to rebound. Not to say that we can put it on auto-pilot, they have snuck up on some good teams this year. Obviously won't do anything for us in the PWR, but a two-win weekend could do wonders for morale.

Enlighten me. Exactly what is he delusional about?

Also, I haven't read anything about Mullin's injury being serious, so I assume it's just a knock. Hopefully we will see him this weekend.

Well for starters, he said we have a good powerplay, so clearly he doesn't watch a lot of tape, :P

I'm actually afarid to look and see what it's at...we're outside the top 40 :o

Then again so is Michigan

Has anyone ran any pairwise scenarios for the remaining 3 weeks? I'd like to think we still control our own destiny with ND and OSU above us in the rankings.

Well...we always control our own destiny. Every team makes the CCHA tournament :)

Yes true. But Michigan won the special teams battle this weekend. PP: Miami 0-12 gave up a SHG. Michigan 2-10. PIM's : Miami 20-65 Michigan 23-68. Over half the minutes played this past weekend.

Michigan started the series 43rd in PP (15.9%) and Miami 46th at 14.4%. PK: Miami was 12th at 85.3% and Michigan 26th (82.6%).

Miami didn't let us down on PIM's either. Averaged 16.2 minutes per game coming in, 11th worst (or 47th.). Michigan averaged 12.39, 37th worst (or 21st.) I'm sure both will be affected now.

Edit: Both team's PP are still below the 40 team cutline. Michigan moved up to 15th in PK. Miami now averages 17.27 PIM's, 6th worst. Michigan jumped to 13.83 (25th). Both still trail NMU's 17.82 PIM's per game, 4th worst in the country. :p

We are in such a precarious position right now. Tied for 4th and only 5 points out of 1st, but all the teams ahead of us and 3 within striking distance behind us have 2 games in hand. Really need to get through this weekend unscathed and then probably sweep ND and OSU to get that first-round bye, and even then it's not a guarantee. If I remember correctly, Miami has never failed to secure a first-round bye since the current playoff format was introduced. I am planning to be in Oxford on March 9-11 and it would be really nice if I got to watch some hockey while I was there. Come on, boys!
