Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

WMU highlights now on the All-Access site for us non-subscribers.

Hello Miami fans :)

Just wondering how Biggs has progressed this season, and your expectations from him in the second half of this season. Thanks

Good skating/stick handling ability for a big man, wicked wrist shot. I realize it comes with the territory of being an enforcer, but he needs to take less stupid penalties.

I'll leave it to someone else for a more detailed breakdown.

I certainly didn't expect 20 goals this season, but for a big kid who's already a strong, physical presence, I expected more than 10 points with just 10 games to play. But, we knew that he'd be a project offensively. Unless he really picks it up, he'll be hard-pressed to reach double-digits in goals. For a first round draft pick, you have to be hoping he'll stay in school and continue to develop his offensive game. He could go play in juniors or the minors now and be a physical presence. But, if he does, I do not think he'll ever develop into the goal-scorer he's "supposed" to be.

He needs to work on moving his feet without the puck, finding open space and burying his chances. Sometimes, I think he also tries to do too much finesse when a straight-ahead, go to the net, find the loose puck approach might serve him better right now. And certainly, until his hands catch up to his physique.

Hope we have another great crowd this weekend. The place looked like it was really buzzing last weekend. Here's a review of Goggin from some sort of sports network thingy called Stadium Journey.

Nice read, probably would have heard an explitive or two if he sat closer to the student section, but they usually don't travel too far. The "Hockey in Pleasantville" title did make me laugh, clearly he didn't spend enough time at Brick Street with some of the young ladies of Miami University.

No doubt. I've always thought the crowds are pretty well behaved, but I think that might be a little extreme to suggest you'll never hear an explicative shouted.

Heard that too. NMU is just "that team" for us where expectations are tempered. As soon as you expect us to roll them, we split, or worse. Will be interesting if the guys can stay out of the box and play a "hard" game against a team that plays a similar brand of hockey. Based on the short learning curve of these freshmen, however, I think they've adjusted pretty well since the start of the season.

A sweep would be huge for the Pairwise, not to mention how vital every conference game is from here on out. We are in a very precarious position. The six teams below us are all within FOUR points of us in the standings, and four of those six teams have two conference games in hand. Luckily they can't ALL win every game! We really can't afford to cool off or have one bad weekend if we want to be sure of a second-round home series in the CCHA Tournament. We need to sweep, hope for some splits in other conference series, and hope Alaska and Bowling Green can take some points each weekend. (If Alaska could pull itself back into TUC status, that would be great, too.)

Go Hawks, Falcons, and Nanooks!

I'm also secretly rooting for the Lakers. Although I hope Kapalka gets toasted and it's a 9-8 final

No love for Knapper from Dave Starman.

I saw that. Starman only gets really excited about the teams he broadcasts. Last year when he came out with his "Starze" awards, 9 of the 12 recipients were from the CCHA and like 3 were from Miami lol. This year all he talks about is Notre Dame and Michigan.

I was going to post the exact same thing. The Starman is a complete CCHA homer within the bounds of who CBS Sports has covered that season. But to be fair, he was framing the discussion in the context of pro scouting (kinda), and at the start of this season Knapp was listed as a D prospect.

I had to leave at the end of the second...

That was so bad it hurt me physically.

Well I guess this is what happens when you run into a hot goalie, still, we definitely should have come out with something other than zero points.

Anything less than a win tomorrow and I think we may be in a bit of hot water.

You guys shouldn't feel so bad, try being in our shoes this second half of the season. We feel like that cruise ship that crashed on the rocks!

I made tbe comment in the first that it may be one of those games we dominate but still lose. Then comes 2 mistakes by thr same defenseman, game over.
