Re: ObamaRama 8

If we're both still talking about adulterers from within the ranks of conservatism, I'm fairly sure that's inaccurate.

I thought we were discussing how their party platform says abortion is "a fundamental assault on innocent human life", they are holding up healthcare refoirm because they don't want it covered under insurance, and yet their own insurance coverage covers the procedure.

Just how many of them do you suppose have taken advantage of this coverage and had the procedure done? I think we have a right to know.

query... if our flag doesn't dip to earthly kings then why does our president? Oh, and before the broadsides about how bowing occurs in Japanese culture there's a nice photo montage of world leaders who managed not to bow.

And would be seen as rude/insulting because of it. If not by the Emperor than the average citizen viewing it. Even then that's more a sign of great respect rather than subservience.

Re: ObamaRama 8

I'm not inclined to give the president much of a hard time for showing respect to HIM. However, the context here is that he did the same thing for the head of the House of Saud and his press secretary and others denied it was a bow, when it obviously was.

The depth of a bow is generally predicated on who's doing the bowing and who is being bowed to. An employee bows more deeply to an employer. A higher ranking official bows less deeply to a lower ranking official, etc. Here I think the president was right to bow, but it looks like he's checking out the tassels on HIM's loafers. A respectful head nod would have sufficed. However, I don't think it's a particularly big deal.

However, what is a much bigger deal to me was the president's inability to have an answer for the inevitable "what is your opinion on the use of nuclear weapons on Japan," question or a derivative. He simply was unable to answer and that bespeaks a certain lack of staff work. The correct answer, of course, is "we did what we had to do to end a war you started."

traditionally American presidents don't bow to monarchs. the bow signifies subservience to the monarch. We do not bow to our President or elected officials for the same reason. Bowing is a gesture of being a subject. Free people are not subject. Ironically - considering Obama bowed to the Saudi King, most Muslims only bow to God - not to each other.

Sure, fine, I'm good with that. He's just done things way worse, IMHO, such as that horrible response to the Fort Hood shootings. Doing fist bumps and shout outs professional Native Americans and only then, "by the way, 50 people were gunned down today, etc. etc." Horrible.

I'm not terribly cranked. its little stuff. protocol. we Americans aren't big on it. Some other nations are though and we can send the wrong message. this kind of stuff should be falling off a log for the White House.

Countries without a free press will show Obama exactly how they want to, regardless of his actions. Those with a free press aren't liable to make mountains of molehills. I just don't think it matters.
