Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

amen, brother. I was talking to a friend who has a small general family practice the other day, he says his life will be a lot simpler when everyone gets on the same (single payer) program some day. With a dozen various private insurers nobody knows exactly what they're covered for, and nobody wants to pay for tests or things they're not covered for, so he has to reinvent the wheel basically for every patient. It would HAVE to save everyone time and money to get on one system.
Plus, I want to apply for a spot on my local death panel, I think it might be fun if they let you have a buzzer button on your desk for the dead ones.

No need to wait. Get an MBA and apply to work at United/Aetna/Cigna or some other major HMO. :D

Work for any number of "health" insurance companies and you can be on a death panel that actually kills people.

My disability insurer tried to rule that I was healed (they must have flown in water from Lourdes and sprayed some on me when I was asleep) even though I have the balance of a wino and a ticking time bomb in my skull. Unfortunately for them, my surgeon from Harvard who actually operated on me has more expertise than their "doctor" who never even saw me.

But I suppose that doesn't count as a "death panel" because technically I could have gone to a homeless shelter.

You're assuming it was actually a doctor who denied your claim. Could have been a monkey with a "denied" stamp. There was a time when insurance companies and bureaucrats didn't run health care. My father was a chest cutter who used the "sliding fee." Wealthy guy pays more, working guy pays less (a senior gypsy big wig was forced to pay, in cash, in advance and about 4X the going rate. He did). Nobody was ever turned away from his office because of inability to pay.

Seriously, hope your prognosis is good.

I've heard from a number of people that it's a normal insurance business strategy nowadays to deny every large claim automatically. Then pay up on the ones that the patients are willing to fight hard enough for. There's no penalty for doing so, so I guess it makes business sense if there are just a few that give up before obtaining their due. :(

And part of the reason (not the whole one, just part) that there is no penalty is that the industry has done a great job of making sure that the average American believes that anyone filing a bad faith claim against an insurance company is just some money-grubbing slob trying to stick it to the man.

Well, Matt Damon put a stop to that, didn't he? I had an experience where my carrier was denying pre-approved charges. And was in the room when the comptroller explained to the carrier that Texas law provides for triple damages.
They paid.

What are the other explanations for someone filling out a "bad faith claim?" If we agree it's "bad faith" then whoever files the claim IS a money grubbing slob.

Sarcasm meter is off, so I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic here. My apologies if you were. A bad faith insurance claim is an action you take against an insurance company when the company has acted in bad faith by, for example, automatically rejecting a claim regardless of the information just because a lot of money is involved in the hopes that no one will fight them over it.

No, not sarcastic, not this time anyway. Misunderstood your reference to bad faith claim.

Our health care system wouldn't be so d*mned expensive if Americans made better decisions about their dietary and exercise habits. Not to mention, the government health care programs that exist currently are shortchanging providers by up to 50% for services rendered.

Of course, rather than expecting something from people in exchange for their health care, we're going to continue to provide solutions for their problems and allow the irresponsibility to flourish. As there aren't any stipulations placed on the benefits of welfare recipients or unemployed workers, the government becomes the enabler of unproductive, unhealthy, state-dependent lifestyles.

Nearly every welfare or entitlement program exists because Americans refuse to live within their means, plan for the future and take care of themselves and their own. Perhaps if we made these programs much less comfortable, more Americans would get the drift and change their laxidasical ways.

Single payer? Good luck. The American mindset has become more and more expectant of government freebies. Don't think for a second that this will lower costs. It won't. A government program has NEVER saved money over the private sector.

But don't people deserve (demand) the freedom to make those decisions? For example, motorcycle riders feel it's a dire infringement on their freedom to wear a helmet, even if that helmet might save their life or reduce their health care requirements.

Anytime the government wants to even suggest that eating healthy is a good idea, people scream about the nanny state. What a horrible waste of valuable taxpayer money it is for the First Lady to tell kids to eat their vegetables. Much better that kids have the freedom to go to McDonald's, eat all kinds of processed foods with mega calories and fat, get to be 400 lbs and cost the taxpayers 50 times as much in health care costs.

You at least got the first sentence right, which for you counts as an accomplishment! :p

Indeed people who are either 1) smokers, or 2) morbidly obese should be paying more for insurance across the board. I would obviously make exceptions on obesity for someone with serious injuries who was unable to excercise, etc. The point raised about conservative whining though is a good one. Aside from Huckabee, nobody on the right is siding with Michelle Obama when she simply is trying to raise awareness of the issue. Instead we get coverage of anytime she orders a cheeseburger.

No offense but your comments about welfare are either stupid or misinformed. Welfare benefits are by and large capped after a certain amount of time, and like unemployment you have to be looking for work in most cases. Its comforting maybe to some people to think everybody without a job deserves their fate because they were lazy, spendthrift, etc but that kind of logic is true in conservative fantasyland, not in reality.

"Freedom" is exactly the right word. Nobody elected Mooschel to anything. She has no constutional authority. BTW did you notice the study released a week or two ago that measured obesity rates of students as between those schools that have replaced junk food in vending machines with rutabegas and those that haven't. Results? No difference. Conclusion? The kids are getting their extra calories before or after school. Maybe we should shut down 7-11's. Americans just refuse to do what their betters "know" is in their best interest.

What did the man say? Oh, I remember: 'I'm here for my Obama dollars."

the price is high because they found they will get paid that if they charge it.
