Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

It makes you a textbook Libertarian. Until recently Libertarians have tended to hold their nose and vote GOP but this may be changing in the wake of the GOP's embrace of foreign intervention and the surveillance state. Also, the national Libertarian movement used to have a sort of rump social conservative activist wing (witness Ron Paul's opposite to abortion), but those guys are getting pulled over to the Tea Party. The remainder of the national party is less identified with Christian issues and may be, like the Randians, actively hostile to religion.

I'd say half the white males with college degrees in business or the sciences I have met are Libertarians. It's a very appealing "starter" orientation. ;)

I'd say this is a very astute observation from stem to stern.

I think Morning Joe is the best of the morning shows by far. Not sure what their ratings are but they have the best mix of both sides of any issue of any opinion type news show that I've ever watched.

And not only do they have the best mix, the ingredients that make up that mix tend to be of the rational sects of their respective leanings. I love the show personally. Intelligent political banter with a small bit of entertainment/sports to break up the monotony of pure politics.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

I've been thinking about Jimmy, Jr. and his language. And the similarly "kinder, gentler" language of the repulsive Maxine Waters. While I can see a case to be made that the Hoffa remarks were edited in a way to make them sound worse, they sound pretty bad no matter how you slice it. As do Mad Maxs'.

Aside from that, however, Jr. evidently wants the president to do to the country what the Teamsters have done to Michigan. This is calculated to halt Deadmeat's slide in the polls?

Full disclosure: Jr. is a fraternity brother.

Maddow is very good entertainment as long as nobody confuses her with a newscaster. She's witty and her caustic comments are in much better humor than Keith "Mad Dog" Olbermann. She's definitely winking at the camera half the time, which is one reason the Haters don't get her at all.

Pretty good summation - Olbermann was too emotional and reeked of as*hole. Maddow is at least capable of blue-collar elitism.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

I believe the incident you're referencing is goldy saying something about me having a boyfriend, and then me going along with said joke because, at times, gay jokes can be humorous.

My own personal view is that it's fair to make fun of anyone anyway you please, but it often helps if the insults are funny or at least shocking in a way that's mildly inventive. I also think it's pretty silly to say you can't make fun of Person A for X, yet think it's okay to make fun of Person B for X, either X can be used for everyone or no one at all.

No shortage of selective application of what is 'fair game' between the two parties. It actually would make a great bit for a comedian...going through what is fair to be used against both parties or only one party prior to election season starting...

"So, here are the ground rules for which you can make jokes about the other side:

Both: You can both accuse the other side of infidelity, corruption and stupidity
Blues: you get creationism, immigration hawks getting their landscaping done and CEO's private jets
Reds: you get legalizing pot, keith olberman and movie stars whining about the economy

Remember, keep it below the belt, you can hit somebody while they are down, come out of every clinch with a piece of the other guy's ear in your mouth and be sure to punch after the bell

Touch gloves and "Let's get ready to rumble!""

That's good. :)

I always thought it would be great to give reds and blues identical made up quotations ascribed first to Dems and then Republicans, and then have them rate whether the statement is funny, offensive, etc. I have no doubt it would be completely determined by allegiance rather than the content of the statement.

The hard part would be coming up with stupid/offensive/funny quotes that couldn't be in some way associated with real-world politicians. E.g. any quote having anything whatsoever to do with handicapped kids or the word "retarded" is going to get Reds' dander up now because of the Palin situation. If well written, though, this could be quite funny.

There's a fairly famous social science experiment where they show groups of fans the same sports footage and have them count the fouls. Of course, each fan group wildly overestimates fouls on its own players while discounting its own misdeeds.

We don't see the world, we have our own predispositions endlessly recapitulated back to us.

Mr. Yuckles is a little too subtle for Fox.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

Pretty sure I have been, and pretty sure your calling out is limited in scope.

I think you're right in that I've been too hard on the president lately (although it's true that I've been in general ****ed at everyone in politics; I was the one that called out the Republican party for what I perceived as the hateful provocation of raffling off a handgun in Gifford's district last week); so let me give this a try in the spirit of optimism:
Obama needs our support in his efforts to boost job creation and support the unemployed. The money doled out now will be spent throughout the economy when it desperately needs a good signal for the sake of consumer confidence, the unemployed will get a little something to tide them over, and it's true that the federal government is in the best position to take care of failing infrastructure, when states are going broke and don't have the same abilities to borrow. And after all, what difference is another $300 billion going to make when you drop it in the bucket of debt we already have? It's a rounding error on the downside (debt). But could have the good effect of carrying the economy through the trough leading to a resurgence of confidence and growth.
I'll try hard to believe it.

I thought the nearly trillion bucks we've already spent was for "shovel ready" infrastructure projects. Where's that construction going on? Deadmeat now admits he was lying, "there's no such thing as a shovel ready project, tee hee." And is it possible these projects (which of course will benefit Deadmeat's union sob's) will start next fall?

Around the same time the troops are coming home from Afghanistan? "Mission Accomplished?" H. R. Haldeman's dictum was: Maximize the incumbency. Looks like Deadmeat (or Axelrod) was paying attention.

What is really the difference between spending a trillion helping the union SOBs vs. spending close to that on banks or spending likely 3x to 4x on long term war mongering?

A lot of deadmeat is hoping/praying Obama doesn't win again simply, good luck to them.

You should love Obama, he actually goes after terrorists. It's not like you have a social or fiscal agenda.

Sunoco has said they will stop refining. Not good.

This isn't about me, much as you evidently want it to be. Clearly Jimmy Hoffa needs federal help, he's only making 400K base salary.

Are union goons the only ones who have a claim on the federal government for "help?" Somehow Deadmeat's proposals only help union dominated sectors of the economy. Just my imagination, I suppose. Here's an idea, maybe Deadmeat could get his union goon dominated NLRB to let Boeing build a plant in North Carolina. Hundreds of jobs building the plant. And thousands more assembling the Dreamliner. But we wouldn't want to do that, would we? Some union goon in Seattle might miss out on some overtime.

Uhh, Deadmeat's the one doing the "long term warmongering" these days, or hadn't you noticed? I support the president going after terrorists. Does that mean you now support W doing the same thing? Or is there still that pesky double standard you guys apply so liberally? You do remember the war in Iraq don't you? The one Deadmeat proclaimed was lost. For which the surge would make no difference. Which he now takes credit for.

I've noticed, which is why I'm shocked you don't love him. You know you don't give a rip about fiscal or social issues, why don't you just get on board with hope and change?

I've forgotten, when is that IWW meeting again?

Is that what he's campaigning on this time? Swami?
