Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

How can there ever be any outrage with MSNBC when only twenty six people (relatives) watch it? They can say anything they want, nobody is listening or cares what they have to say. Fox has a large passionate audience.

As I say, I rarely watch either. But I did find the Mr. Maddow segment about the capture of Whitey Bulger particularly amusing. He went on for an entire segment, mocking the feebs for advertising in ladies' magazines, hoping Whitey's squeeze would see them. Struck me as a bit of a reach, but Mr. Maddow (with his extensive law enforcement background) went much further, mocking, condescending, etc. Then a week or two later, Mr. Bulger got popped!. Now Mr. Maddow's entitled to his point of view. But it would have been nice if he'd had the cojones to admit he was wrong.

"News" organizations should follow the rules, no matter how big their audience.

Why is a certain someone on this board so hung up on gender identity and flipping them back and forth, calling male posters ladies and Rachel Maddow a man? Does that further his argument?

Discuss.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

Of course, the civic-minded types would tell me it's my "duty" to vote, but I disagree. If I feel there is no valid option and that no minor candidate/party has any shot whatsoever, there simply is no point in participating. My suburban district will vote solidly R in every Congressional election, my state will vote solidly D in every presidential election, and neither of those things is likely to change in my lifetime.
I vote because when I do I feel great. It's the one day of the year that I feel like all the Mr. Smith Goes to Washington bromides are true. And I now vote in a district where the Republican literally can't be Christiban enough, and where if pure democracy had its way atheists would have to register and wear a scarlet A. If Perry had a rally here, the only worry would be he was a little too moderate.

If democracy still feels good even among these apes, it will feel good anywhere. There's no duty to vote, but I do think it's a positive act of social cohesion, as well as a small but satisfying middle finger to a lot of guys who deserve it.

I'm guessing Deadmeat's got that thought on his desk, instead of "the buck stops here."

Sounds like heaven on earth to me.

I used to watch MSNBC from time to time but now only watch if there's a huge breaking news story (and even then I usually look for news online). The day time hosts are horrible and they often have production values that would embarrass a high school A/V department. I like Maddow, but she alone isn't reason to turn on MSNBC. I'm usually watching the Red Sox or something else anyway.

I think Morning Joe is the best of the morning shows by far. Not sure what their ratings are but they have the best mix of both sides of any issue of any opinion type news show that I've ever watched.

Maddow I think does the best job of talking down to her audience. That's why I like her better than Hannity and O'Reilly who have to dumb things down as far as they can get so they can speak to their minions. Ed Schultz is actually kind of fun to watch cause it got old after a while having nothing but lunatic conservatives to listen to on radio and TV.

I don't turn to any of them as must watch TV. I watch them when I don't have anything else to watch.

Want to switch districts? :D I'm in VanHollen's. Though from what I see of the gerrrymander, I'm going to the minority district and you're going to VanHollen.

Because it's wrong to call people retarded these days, but vague homophobic insults are still in vogue.

Maddow is very good entertainment as long as nobody confuses her with a newscaster. She's witty and her caustic comments are in much better humor than Keith "Mad Dog" Olbermann. She's definitely winking at the camera half the time, which is one reason the Haters don't get her at all.

She and Anderson Cooper are probably the only talking hairdos who could pass a basic intelligence test.

You may be right. On the other hand, I believe you're on record as, uh, thinking she's all that. Possibly you're not unbiased. To me, she's not important enough to hate. Besides, speaking only for myself, I only hate criminals and enemies of America. She's neither.

Half right. It's wrong to call a helpless child a "retard," while "vague homophobic insults" directed at adults are perfectly acceptable. You did it just last week, IIRC. Rachel Maddow is a public figure, a three year old is not.

I believe the incident you're referencing is goldy saying something about me having a boyfriend, and then me going along with said joke because, at times, gay jokes can be humorous.

My own personal view is that it's fair to make fun of anyone anyway you please, but it often helps if the insults are funny or at least shocking in a way that's mildly inventive. I also think it's pretty silly to say you can't make fun of Person A for X, yet think it's okay to make fun of Person B for X, either X can be used for everyone or no one at all.

Until libtards started making Trig Palin the object of their attention, we generally had a rule in this country that we leave the kids out of it. Remember that painful photo of Chelsea Clinton walking between her parents after daddy confessed to being a lying sack of wet brownies on TV? Painful because she's not responsible for her father being a horn dog and because the Clintons exploited her so shamelessly. I think it's a good rule. Has Palin "exploited" the kid? Probably. But no more than JFK "exploited" his kids. It's been reported endlessly that Jackie hated having the media swarm around her kids. But anytime she hit the road, Jack was on the 'phone to Hugh Sidey, offering "Life" an Oval Office exclusive. Jack's sister was institutionalized, having had a lobotomy. And she was rarely mentioned. And certainly never referred to by any Republican or conservative commentator as a "retard." Times change, media change, standards change. But somehow, I think, adults should still refrain from comments about children, especially handicapped children.

I say again, the parents are public figures (a status recognized by law) the children are not. So depending on who you're talking about and what "x" is, I might agree with you--as long as we're talking about adults.

Those ratings make me sad. Fox in the morning is literally unwatchable.

Funny thing is, Fox's ratings are nearly triple Obama's. Go figure. I, personally, like to watch Rachel Maddow; angry lesbian, belief she is omniscient, and downright untruthful - that is what I like!
