Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Are people still talking about a corporation executing its right to fire an employee for poor performance?

No, they haven't gotten that far yet. Still haggling over the definition of "poor performance", but we'll get back to you once we have that part sorted out.

You having a good day?

Nope. The only people bringing rights into it are NPR defenders who are trying to set up a strawman to cloud the issue. Try to keep up.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I said it was impacting his analysis. He can be as straight-laced as he wants on NPR, but if he's running his yap in another public forum, that doesn't work because he represents NPR's journalistic integrity even when he's not on the clock.

That is presicely the reason why a news organization like NPR forbids their employees from editorializing on their own time - that activity will color their professional work, even if that work is of the highest caliber.

You mean like when Gwen Ifill had a book about the goodness of Obama has the first black president in the can before moderating a (vice?) presidential debate? Or is that just writing unwritten history? How about when Nina Totenberg said it would be a form of karmic justice if Jesse Helms grandkids had AIDS?

NPR doesn't have integrity... it has mushy headed people who think NPR is the level headed organization for the coffee sipping set.

----

BTW, 5mn, if I'm paying for it, I sure as hell am going to complain. Would you join me relieving myself of my fraction of the ownership of NPR?

I honestly think it had much more to do with the CAIR people coming after NPR than the channel Williams said it on. If he had said it to Ifill, I think those same CAIR people would have been all over them just the same.

The problem is the empty heads think that CAIR is an actually righteous civil rights group and not a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. So, they'll bend to the sharia-favoring Islamist CAIR whenever they bark.

What Williams said may not have been polite and could certain be seen through a lens if replacing "arab" with "black"... but I'll say this much... he at least admitted it.... the sin is that he said something that goes against liberal dogma... even if they believe it themselves as they retract cartoon after cartoon, editorial after editorial, because they fear the actions of Muslims. That's basically what this comes down to... the problem is that Williams admitted to his own personal thoughts on TV... thoughts which surely others share rightfully or wrongfully. Hell, if the liberals really are right in this, the best way to correct things is to get it all out in the open.

Nope... not how we do things folks... we have a sinner against dogma... he must be dealt with.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

NPR is run by and for white liberal elites. not saying that's good or bad, it just is. they find a niche audience and pander to it. its how they make money. Williams firing had nothing to do with his Muslim comments. he and many other NPRs express their views - politcally correct or not - all the time. NPR had it in for Williams and were waiting for him to say something they could fire him for. NPR itself has said they had problems with him in the past. I'd be interested to know WHY they had it in for him? hard to work with? the Soros money? mental health issues (alluded to by the boss)? Fox ties? making too much money? race? not following the liberal line? I doubt we will ever know since this is a contractual issue and not likely to become public. My hats off to Williams for not throwing down the race card. I think he would have been well within his rights to do so.

Its rather simple. Either employers can let workers go for behavior they don't approve of or they can't. What restrictions would you impose?

With that POV, why aren't you up in arms about the large number of layoffs...where their was little or no reason caused by the employee for their release from employment?

You need to choose your words more precisely. If by "can" you mean that employers are legally allowed to let workers go for their off-work behavior, well, of course they absolutely can, and NOBODY has argued against that position.

If you instead mean, "nobody should ever think it's a bad idea for any employer to ever let a worker go for any off-work behavior," then you are nuts, but I think we knew that already.

Because I believe that economic reasons are far more valid than ideological ones. That's just how I roll.

Let me just take a swipe at this strawman: the ability of employers to sack their workers for non work behavior is not without limitations.Inter-racial dating/marriage, ordinary political activities, religious activities, sexual proclivities, etc. There can be exceptions, based on the nature of the business, of course, but generally employers don't own their workers and can't run their lives and can't punish them for legal behavior away from the job.

Of course, that's not what this is all about and all of us, with one exception, apparantly realize it. It's not as if Williams was hanging sheet rock and failing to meet the objective standards of doing it correctly.

Let's turn this one around: Williams' principal gig was at Fox and he periodically guested on NPR. While appearing on the latter he said something which convinced the "evil doers" at Fox to fire him. Are the libs actually suggesting they'd react with something less than outrage at that? That they'd calmly (albeit perhaps reluctantly) mouth platitudes about Fox' right to terminate an employee? That they wouldn't have reltneys, choking out bitter criticisms of Fox, including "it's not really news," and "something should be done," etc.

I'd pay to see that.

So a senior PBS employee appears at a CAIR conference, TO TRAIN THEM ON HOW TO BE MORE PERSUASIVE WHEN THEY WHINE ABOUT ANTI-MUSLIM BIAS. AND TO HELP THEM BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO IMPOSE SHARIA LAW ON ALL AMERICANS. We are definitely not in Kansas anymore.

Thank goodness we've put that dangerous Juan Williams in his place for violating "ethical" standards.

actually its not that simple. contractual employee? terms of contract? union? union contract? "at will" or "just cause" employee? as you mentioned, layoffs are in a different catagory than firings. sports and entertainment stars often have "morality" clauses in their contracts. not that simple at all.

No non-citizen should be permitted to vote in any election, local, state or federal, ever. This baby needs immediate strangling in its crib. And justifying the extension of the franchise to foreigners because "the people voted for it" is mendacious unconstitutional twaddle. What kind of person thinks diluting citizenship is a good idea? And this won't be the end of it, either.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Just curious, but where the hell do you dig up these sites? Breitbart I've at least heard of before, but "bigjournalism.com"? ***, mate?

Ah, I see it's related to breitbart...

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

If this was about professional standards, NPR head Vivian Schiller should be out on her keister after suggesting that Juan Williams should take up his opinions with his psychologist, suggesting that Williams perhaps has mental issues. After which Williams noted that he doesn't have a psychologist. I wonder if NPR will ever recover from this ever growing quagmire.

And a good editorial in the WSJ, noting that Nina Tottenburg has said far worse things, like wishing AIDS upon Jesse Helms' grandchildren, and is still gainfully employed by NPR.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303738504575568171234581384.html

Tottenburg is constantly giving her opinions on things, and doesn't shy away from controversial subjects.

Game. Set. Match.

Yeah, if it's not on the National Lawyers Guild website, it doesn't exist.

While we're slinging moonbats and knuckedraggers at each other, did anyone else notice that we're past the 1,000 post mark with no sign of stopping?

Add something about abortion and you'll get noticed.
