Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

While we (republicans) get mad over the last stimulus by the government. The Federal Reserve BANK is planning a 2nd stimulus, around $500billion via debt purchases.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Fed-l...5.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=6&asset=&ccode=

Public remarks by Fed officials since the September 21 meeting suggest the program will be smaller than the $1.7 trillion one it launched during the recession. Under that program, the Fed purchased a mix of mortgage securities and government debt. The effort was credited with forcing down mortgages rates and providing support to the weakened housing market.

Two Fed officials in recent remarks have suggested the new purchases shouldn't exceed $500 billion.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

What is the benefit?

Just look at Europe and Asia railroad system for amount of cargo and passenger moved via railroad and the costs. And electric railroad has similar benefits to electric cars without the battery disposal problem.

I think they should make railroad tycoon: modern America. And see how much it would cost to build it now. :)

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

That could also be aided with a move to nuclear.... cost to me... $0.

Who defines level?

Will that improvement cover the costs of investment?

Not pushing a nuclear initiative is the most disappointing thing about Obama to me. Well maybe the second behind his war policies.

Level is being willing to spend on alternatives what we currently spend on defending our oil consumption and our financing of the highway infrastructure. While truly being level would be ridiculous, I do think it would be responsible for gas taxing paying for the immense national defense spending that ensures the oil is flowing. Bottom line is we will never be close to level, but it seems disingenuous to me to hear whining about the cost and subsidization of mass transit systems when the biggest subsidy of all is our refusal to allow the price of gas to reflect the cost of it's acquisition.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

It'll be like all other ventures like this. Subsidized by government because it's just too ****ed expensive.

Well, yeah. What's the proportion of public vs. private roads that you drive on?

We subsidize the auto trucking industry heavily with gov't paid for roads, what's wrong with levelling the playing field and subsidizing the rail industry too?

Also, the cargo railroads (UP, BNSF, etc.) are doing fine. It's only Amtrak that struggles, usually because they're subsidized enough to allow opponents to whine about the money wasted on poor service but not enough to actually improve the service to make it better.

Normally my first instinct would be to attribute this to ineptitude.
But this is ILLINOIS we're talking about here, with a record of corruption that would make Juan Peron blush. And we have a pitched battle for the president's former seat in the Senate, a race which one assumes is of great interest and importance in the WH. What's missing from the article is which jurisdictions have failed to meet the federal requirements. It's one thing if Grundy County is derelict, quite a different thing if it's Cook County. We'll see. However, we can all agree that it's disgraceful for our GI's serving overseas to be disenfranchised, for whatever reason.

Anyone believe what our Treasury Sec Geithner is saying ?

I was disappointed when Charlie Rose never asked Geithner about the $1.7 Trillion (TARP2) program under Bernanke by the Federal Reserve BANK.
When Geithner was bragging about TARP costing only $50billion... so how much will TARP2 ($1.7trillion) cost under the Fed program?

http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...s-tarp-cost-will-be-less-than-50-billion.html
Sept. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said the Troubled Asset Relief Program, enacted as a $700 billion bank rescue in 2008, will probably have an ultimate cost of less than $50 billion.

TARP’s final price tag is “almost certain to be under $50 billion and limited to what we spend in the housing market,” Geithner said today in remarks to a conference in Washington.

Anderson Cooper was taken aback by some movie using "That's so gay" in the trailer. Really Anderson? I mean, really?

Grow some thicker skin you pansy... Cripes... How is anyone shocked by that phrase anymore (much less ever)?

Edit: He said that words have power. Bullsh**. THey only have as much power as you allow them to have. Idiot. He whines and *****es about the 1st amendment when he agrees with the speech being protected but when he doesn't, he conveniently forgets about it.

wasn't there less take than expected and didn't several pay back early?

don't you have better things to ***** about? you probably think it's okay to bully gay kids too

The one thing I'd note - the private railroads are indeed doing 'fine', but they're not doing as well as they could be, nor are they utilizing the benefits of their technology to the fullest extent that our country would like - that's a result of their competition being directly subsidized.

I mentioned the coasts.

Yeah, but you made it seem like they were insignificant - instead of those aforementioned megaregions that contain 80% of the people and 90% of the economic activity in the US. Point being, those areas are not exceptions at all, they are the rule.

No. They should grow some tougher skin. Everyone but the kid who shaves in 6th grade gets bullied.

Oh no, they're gay... I don't see people rallying around the bullying of kids who are just incredibly awkward, "eggheads", etc. Everyone gets teased. Guess what? We've somehow managed to survive... Gay people aren't special, straight people get bullied just the same. Is it ok? No, not really. But who cares. Suck it up.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Michelle Obama violated election law by campaigning inside a polling place today. What would have happened if a poll worker told her to leave for said campaigning? Specifically, what would have happened to the poll worker? What does this then say about Michelle Obama? What does this then say about the political situation in Chicago?

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Yeah, but it's misleading to say TARP was a success because it's being paid back early. Since all that money is coming from the Fed via MBS purchases, guarantees, and 0% interest loans (Fed is running the real TARP since they are buying up the troubled assets under the $1.7trillion program launched in 2008)

My problem with the TARP was that it didn't have enough strings attached, while some republicans were complaining about too much government interference about things like bonuses and executive compensation limits.

Basically under the Fed's program there is no strings, government has ZERO say while basically giving banks license to gush cash via 0% interest and with the toxic asset purchase at par and guarantees cleaned up the banks balance sheet using government power to print money.

Federal Reserve BANK has too much power without enough oversight. Congress needs to take their power back.

http://money.cnn.com/news/storysupplement/economy/bailouttracker/
Funds paid back ($118.5 billion) ($118.5 billion)
New initiatives $172.9 billion n/a
TARP total $700 billion committed $356.2 billion spent

Fed total $6.4 trillion committed $1.5 trillion spent

Did she have a billy club and a gay little beret?

Anybody who has slogged throughy any of my posts knows I have no use whatsoever for Bill O'Reilly (because of his cruel treatment of Shawn Hornbeck), but this little set to on "The View" is really a look into the minds of two lib b*****s who prattle on endlessly about the First Amendment, but are willing to suspend the rights of anyone who "crosses the line" and implicates "Muslims" in 9/11. We all know it was Presbyterians, how can O'Reilly keep up the pretense? The trouble, of course, is those two obnoxious cows came back.

So true my friend! I saw the footage, it is ridicuolous, the nature of some people on both sides. Instead of having a healthy debate it turns into a p***fest.
