Any ideas on how we 'win' afghanistan? IMO its long since time to 'cut and run'.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

You could only say that if bin Laden didn't practice Islam... I'm under the assumption that its quite clear that Hitler wasn't a practicing Christian.

The evidence is mixed as to his adult religious views, but at the least he was a Catholic who received the sacrament of confirmation (albeit by parental force) and who made overtures to Jesus and the churches during public speeches and elsewhere. To the best of my knowledge, while he may not have gone to Mass once he left home, he also never renounced his Catholicism nor was he excommunicated by the Church. To a complete outsider, it would not be unreasonable to think he was a Christian of some form or another.

Kepler's right though, the better comparison is probably Fred Phelps or the people who kill abortion doctors in the name of religion.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I seem to recall video of Saddam Hussein sticking his azz up into the air as he shoved his ugly face in the dust, faux praying to get political support from other "Muslims." Usually that footage was followed by shots of him in his cute little Tyrolean hat, firing some sort of weapon into the air.

Pity we're to be denied those useful images going forward. Credit where credit is due: you lefties never seem to run out of tactics to "prove" that Christians ("Hitler was a Chrisitian") are no better than Muslims. Or at least that Muslims aren't so bad and all this fuss about terrorism is typical right wing over reaction. That's nonsense, since no serious person is advancing the idea that Christianity per se is superior to Islam. No serious person is suggesting that "all" or "most" Muslims are terrorists, but you boys keep of flailing away at that strawman, hear?

The Afghanis and the Taliban cut a deal and declare peace out from under us. A country is self-sufficient when they tell us screw.

That would really suck for our economy right now, though.

I never cease to be amused at being called a lefty.

I'm amused by the vitriol spewed by certain self-professed "Christians", and not just on this board. ;)

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

After the Challenger blew up a DC disc jockey had a bit where a silly sounding female (meant to be Christa McAuliffe) says: "what happens if I push this button." BOOM.
It had to be Howard Stern or the Greaseman.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Fourth, the strategy that VP = springboard to the presidency is hugely overrated.

Perhaps, but the last President who had previously served as SecState was Buchanon.

Surely the VP would at least have a lot more free time for campaigning than a SecState, assuming they're both actually fulfilling their prescribed duties.

First, I'm not convinced she'll run anyway. In 2016, Clinton will be 68 years old.

The part about free time is irrelevant, however. The whole attractiveness of the SecState position is that she can resign if she wants to run full time. She can't resign as VP and then expect to get elected as President. Pretty much every President in recent times has had at least 2 people fill the SecState position.

So you're saying someone like the Pope isn't a serious person?

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be trying to convert people, and asking others to help him out, if he didn't think he was on the superior team. ;)

You're right. After I wrote that I realized I should have excluded religious leaders from the statement, obviously they have dogs in the hunt. However, serious religious leaders, including the Pope, are big believers in ecumenism, and none of them equate conversion with violence, except for the leaders of you know which religion.

No serious secular person. . . .

Greaseman. I was working in Houston at the time, and that event was like a death in the family. Those folks were our neighbors, they lived in Clear Lake City.

Happy to give you a giggle. Stop arguing lefty positions and it will stop.

Changing the subject. Is the new arena Blais is talking about probable? And will it be located where Ak-Sar-Ben used to be?

The "Lioness of Tuzla" wakes up every single day thinking she and that pig she's "married" to should be living in the WH. When she thinks about how Obama blindsided her in '08, I'd imagine the crockery flies around the room. What was it Kerry said about "W": "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy." Boy, howdy. In her mind, this lady felt she was "entitled" to be president. She'd earned it.

She has no loyalty, ideological or otherwise, to Obama. And if she thinks she can win the nomination, she'll run. And she'd do so regardless of the position she'd be holding. Resignation is a small price to pay for a shot at the big prize. The question is, how bad do things have to be for Obama for her to step up to the plate? Dire, I'd say. It's not likely. Peter Beinert has a column this morning declaring Obama a "lock" to win in '12. Well, maybe not a "lock" but he'll likely be very tough to beat. That's our history.

I'd imagine '16 is unlikely for her, not because of age (think: Reagan, Ronald) but because after 8 years of one party in the WH, the country is usually in a mood for change. And she'll be "yesterday's news," we'll be looking for a new face.
