This is playing out like the movie Casualties of War. without the kidnapping and rape so far, although from earlier reports it might have been talked about.

So should we blame it on hashish or the 10 prescription drugs.

Few bad men? American fallen heroes?

Around Thanksgiving, Sgt. Calvin Gibbs, a Billings, Mont., veteran of two previous deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, arrived in Morlock's platoon to replace a wounded sergeant. Morlock, in his statement to investigators, said Gibbs began to talk about "stuff" he had gotten away with in Iraq and felt out platoon members to see if they would be willing to stage killings of Afghans.

In three separate incidents -- in January, February and May of this year -- Morlock alleged, civilians were murdered while the soldiers were on patrol. The deaths were made to appear as justified killings of Afghan civilians, he said.

By May, Morlock's brain injuries had prompted doctors to approve a medical evacuation, Waddington said.

But before that could happen, Morlock was intercepted by two criminal investigators. They were following up on a tip from another soldier, who, after being beaten for telling about hashish use, said Morlock and others had committed murder.

No, this is naturally reflective of every single member of the US Armed Forces. All of us are just like this guy.

absolutely not... tired, yes... drunk, no... deal with it... health care may fail in a spectacular fashion, I'd call it the next 6 months... people don't have the money to absorb $300/mo increases... then what... universal health care is still the moral goal of the democrats... but its still a failing ideology and the failure of the first bill will still be hung around the necks of dems in office.... so what then? People are going to want a solution, but the thing is people want all kinds of things that are still not plausible... and we could very well see a bad solution to the bad solution to an awkward problem.

Here's a nutbar trying to stick her manly body in John McCain's face. Security rightly knocked her on her azz. Too bad they didn't pound her into jelly. I'm so sick of these people, left or right, who figure their First Amendment rights include assaulting candidates or office holders. This latent heterosexual was engaging in conduct, not speech and got what she deserved.

Put her in pink underwear and a Sheriff Joe tent.

I enjoy watching him abuse the freedom of speech that better people than me earned for him. We don't fight for the right to say what is acceptable, we fight for the right to say that which is outrageous.

There were two chief goals of HCR: increase coverage and decrease cost. Insofar as they're in conflict, the former may have to wait for better days. But it will get here. The failed ideology is "I'm alright Jack keep your hands off of my stack."

The Germans (no surprise) and the English (not without kicking and screaming) are instituting real budgetary reform while we keep pretending we can strictly grow our way out of our massive deficits. Social and military spending will eventually both have to be severely cut, but as long as both sides have their heels dug in, it's a matter of not unilaterally disarming and giving up all the country's priorities to the dark side. We already tried that with tax cuts for 30 years and a fine mess it got us into.

So here we are, in the 21st century, watching 7th century savages stone a woman to death for "being seen with a man." These beasts, and their bretheren, have declared war on us and all we stand for. One of them even betrayed his country and his training to murder 12 innocent GI's at Fort Hood.

It seems likely the vast majority of Muslims world wide (and especially the ones living here) oppose this kind of behavior. But the savages don't care. They've shown themselves quite willing to kill co-religionists as well as Christians and Jews.

It is evidently these people "Imam" Rauf is warning us not to p**s off by opposing Jihad World at GZ. I say they're already p**sed off, and there's nothing we can do about it. We can, however, strengthen their belief that we are, in OBL's phrase, the "weak horse."

The president, the mayor of NYC, and the whole menagerie of left wing opinion has coalesced behind the idea that opposition to the Islamist Victory Arch is somehow the same as "Islamophobia," and indicates American intolerance of Islam, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Some of us wish the same liberal opinion leaders who are such strong supporters of "freedom of religion" when it comes to Islamarama, would show a little consistency when it comes to Judeo-Christian expressions of faith. But we know some of these same people will be on guard during the Christmas season, searching for any expression of faith on public property or, God forbid, in a school. But sending defenseless middle school kids to pray at a mosque in MA is just "broadening their cultural outlook," or something.

We are constantly told we shouldn't offend sensitive Muslims, that we should reach out to them. Well, watch that video again and ask yourself two questions: Do you really give a s**t about the feelings of these people? And do you really think savages like this can be "talked" out of their beliefs?

O.P., those questions are about whether it's possible for animals to stop being animals, and the answer is probably not for that hard core group of the truly insane. But the questions aren't logically related to whether we reach out to the majority. It's the equivalent of saying should we extend respect to conservatives when there are people like Coulter out there who could then claim a victory. It's galling, but yes, of course that's the right thing to do.

I'd love a magic neutron bomb that blinks all the crazies from all sides out of existence in an instant, but (1) there isn't one that doesn't take out a thousand worthwhile lives for every creep, and (2) nobody's list of crazies is the same. So instead we have to muddle along, protecting ourselves as best we can while also not punishing or segregating out enormous populations of the innocent. It's maddening, but it's real life.

What I'm saying is the OPs and RCs and the Rovers and the Keplers are all playing for the same side ultimately, and the longer we let the extremists among us define our reaction to the non-extremists on the other side, the more time we waste while real enemies prepare their next strike.

We have to get our act together, folks. The internecine struggles were a luxury we could afford when we were way out ahead of the rest of the world, but the distance is closing fast. Just like with the debt, if we all don't swallow hard and take a serious hit to our pet projects and theories, then we'll eventually lose our ability to control our own destinies. We have a degree of power over where we go next that nobody else does in the world, but that very power lulls us into believing we can dick around for another year, election cycle, or decade and play chicken with our immediate political opponents. There's no parent telling us "enough already," so it's up to us.
