Obama V: For Vendetta

Re: Obama V: For Vendetta

I thought everyone would go on the plan, not just the ones who can afford it.

No, it competes like any other insurance option (again, for the sake of clarity I'm talking about the President's view. I don't expect a public option to make it into the final bill).

Re: Obama V: For Vendetta

So the 40 million or the 47 million, what ever the figure is, of uninsured folks in the US doesn't include folks on Medicaid?

From this source... I can't tell.

Based on this stat:

Over 8 in 10 uninsured people come from working families

my initial guess would be it doesn't include them, but at the same time I would think proponents would spin the number up as high as possible, just as opponents spin it down as low as possible.

Re: Obama V: For Vendetta

An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession.

Like many young men his age, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it.

One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects:

1. A Bible.

2. A silver dollar.

3. A bottle of whiskey.

4. A Playboy magazine.

'I'll just hide behind the door," the old preacher said to himself. "When he comes home from school today, I'll see which object he picks up.."

"If it's the Bible, he's going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be!

"If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a business man, and that would be okay, too.

"But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to be a no-good drunken bum, and Lord, what a shame that would be.

"And worst of all if he picks up that magazine he's going to be a skirt-chasing womanizer."

The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son's foot-steps as he entered the house whistling and heading for his room. The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them.

Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink, while he admired the magazine's centerfold.

"Lord have mercy," the old preacher disgustedly whispered. "He's gonna run for Congress."

Geez, I really miss the leftist hypocrisy up here. I'm surprised our resident terrorist protection watchdog, Watcher, isn't up here complaining about the Messiah and his cronies compiling lists of American *citizens* e-mail addresses and spamming them with agenda-driven propaganda. Can't say as I remember many citizens complaining about government intrusion with the Patriot Act or MCA which are/were there to protect us from, of course, bad people who are trying to kill us.

This administration gets worse by the hour.

Montana town hall:

No deeper explanations... much the same as in NH, but I got the distinct feeling that the insurers, making all that profit, are now public enemy #1, not Fox news, or the protesters. Is the president that sure that insurance companies are making a windfall? I'd really like to know what the concept legislation IS, versus what it isn't.

Still waiting on that fuzzy math explanation on how the plan will be paid for above and beyond streamlining the industry and closing the tax deductions for the wealthy. Cost/benefit analysis would be helpful.

Still wondering if there are models explaining how the gov't option won't depend on taxpayer dollars OR drive private enterprise out of business through favored regulation. (After all, isn't Blue Cross/Blue Shield a regulated non-profit entity providing healthcare coverage much like the type of gov't option Obama was referring to?)

I heard Obama again refer to the healthcare professionals and AARP endorsing the reform... hmmm...

I also heard him state that there is 80% agreement on some form of legislation complete in Congress...

I think he is making a colossal mistake trying to force this thing through in the face of public opinion right now. It sure would be helpful to have the Dem leadership stop demonizing the protesters as "Anti-American" etc. and put out a public information summary on the plan.

In all fairness, he DID warn us this was going to happen. We just thought he meant Bush was going to do it.

That's part of their psychological posturing for the dumb masses. Have you noticed that terminology that started out as health "care" reform has been changing over to health "insurance" reform. Why? Most people like their doctors. The administration now feels that the evil insurance companies make a better target. Health "care" reform sounds too much like an attack on doctors.

How's your bunker coming along?

The last place you'll find me is in hiding somewhere - unlike yourself. Don't worry, Slappy, I'm strong enough to fight for your kids as well. Poor pups obviously have a Kool-Aid drinking dad that can't handle his own future, nevermind theirs.

Re: Obama V: For Vendetta

With all the birthers, teabaggers, and talk about "death panels", I think I've lost what little faith I've had in this country. We finally have someone in office who wants to move forward and distance ourselves from our history of slavery and genocide, and these gun-toting racist hicks try to demonize him.

Since it's prety much the insurance industry that's standing in the way, it seems pretty appropriate. They don't want reform, cause they're going to lose their multi billion dollar gravy train.

I'd rather think of it as "speaking truth to power".
