Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

At some point, we have to allow free citizens to make their own choices. I'm just not comfortable establishing menu police to make sure Americans on Food Stamps "eat right." As a general rule, I don't care what very rich dwarfs think about anything.

What menu police? Since when did a bunch of PSAs about eating right become "the food police"? Does this mean that Nancy Reagan was a drug czar for the DEA?

Mrs. Bigbottom? Just when I think your arsenal of cute little nicknames for things and people you don't like might be running on empty...

Seriously though, is the First Lady actually a little fat? For the life of me, I can't picture her except in those formal-ish sort of head shots of her that you usually see in AP stories that mention her. I've always kind of assumed that she's in decent enough shape for someone in her mid/late 40s.

And then there's the point unofan sort of made: it's not like short ribs are the most unhealthy cut of meat you can have. Depending on preparation, they can actually be pretty lean.

You guys are awfully sensitive. You dished it out for 8 years of Bush, but even childish, sophomoric japes at your idols, causes you to rush to the barricades in defense. She IS Mrs.Bigbottom, whether you like it or not.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Where do you stand on food stamps being used to purchase soda? It's one of the few things I agree with America's nanny, Micheal Bloomberg, on.

I don't like teenagers in appalachia drinking mountain dew in lieu of water, but that's an issue of volume, not the product per se. I'm somewhat against it simply because it's way too easy to extend it to pretty much everything else. Desserts are obviouly gone next, probably followed by all red meat, all pork, all white bread, etc. until all food stamps can buy are produce, wheat bread, and chicken breasts. Oh, and gov't cheese. Lots and lots of that.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

I believe a recheck of the posts will show conclusively that you brought up Paula Deen. And me mentioning her cooking is not what most people, except possibly you, would consider a revelation.

But why does her being a cook somehow mean the Obamas can't ever eat ribs?

They can eat sh*t for all I care. But I would prefer they keep their suggestions to themselves, that's all. He's the president, she is (constitutionally) nothing, and I don't want or need her hectoring me about anything. If I want her advice, I'll ask for it. And that goes for every other FLOTUS.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Wait... why the hell would people be up in arms over what the First Lady eats? Because she's been advocating for people to eat healthy?
It's the same hypocrisy that afflicts the ruling class regardless of who holds the office. When the left is in power, they tell us how we should eat and not to smoke. When the right is in power, they tell us who we can **** and not to do drugs. All the while, both groups ignore their own advice. It's really tough to take them seriously because of that.

Circle the bases.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Just say no. Still good advice.

Yeah, but I mean, I still have my freedom, you know! It's my choice if I want to freebase, and how ****ing dare Nancy Reagan try to tell me that I shouldn't? What, does she think she's the boss of me? ****ing nanny state...

So... you can't just ignore PSAs? One of the easiest things in the world to ignore is really that big of a deal? What if it's really important advice?

Exactly. The fact that "not eating right" isn't illegal and using dope generally is, shouldn't concern you at all. But I'm pretty much in agreement. Knock yourself out. It remains to be seen whether UNOFan's comprehensive lack of compassion for smokers would extend to junkies.

And PSA's would be the end of it? All the do-gooders working to get spinach in high school vending machines tell me otherwise. Besides, we haven't exactly had good luck with big shots telling us how to lead our lives. John Denver did PSA's extolling the virtues of the double nickel, 'til it turned out he had a 1000 gallon tank of gas at his house. Or Willie Nelson, who did PSA's claiming "Laid back willie's doing 55." Those stopped when Laid Back Willie was popped by the DPS doing closer to 95. Tony Curtis did spots for an anti smoking campaign called IQ for I quit 'til he was busted in London for smoking something other than tobacco.

It's easy to ignore until the behavior is legislated. I can't wait 'til all the food that tastes good but is bad for me is slapped with "sin taxes".

Don't laugh. The do-gooders are forever busy. Now that they've come this close to criminalizing smoking, they're moving on to other matters. We see lawsuits against fast food joints by people who eat too much. We see cities moving to ban new fast food joints in parts of cities where people aren't "eating right." Obviously, these poor devils need some "help" from government because, they can't run their own lives according to the do-gooder road map otherwise. There is no limit to the creativity of do-gooders when it comes to butting in to other people's lives.

Hennepin County (Minneapolis) is looking at banning smoking on every square inch of public property. I don't know of any other place that bans smoking outside. But its no biggie...Minnesota has often been pushing the envelope against smoking.

They can't, that is why they are fat and have all sorts of fat related diseases. And I say this as someone who used to way ****ed near 70 pounds more than I do today. Why cook things or eat healthy when yo can go to Wendys and spend five bucks? People are lazy and stupid, you should know that by now ;)

If a city wants to make it tough for a McDonalds to move in isn't that their right? I guess I don't see your issue here. I don't want it federally mandated that such food is illegal but if some town wants to make it tough for them to set up shop who are you to say they can't? If the people get outraged they will just throw the bums out anyways or drive the next town over to get their saturated fat fix.
