Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

How exactly is a fat woman in spandex the same thing? One is something you dont like to see but has no repercussions besides you maybe throwing up. Fast food in urban areas is like a cancer...it is cheap and easy to get. Ya know what happens when you eat that stuff regularly...have ya seen the stats?

And plus I didnt say they should make it illegal...in fact I said I didnt want a law outlawing it, I said I had no issue if the mayor of Minneapolis made it tougher on them to set up shop. There is a huge leap between what you are talking about and what I said I supported...put on your bifocals old man and read a bit :D :p

And hey, the Nazis were just referenced...yippie!

How much of a health threat is side stream smoke in a football stadium? The occasional stray molecule of smoke pales in comparison to the other pollutants floating around in our air. Banning smoking in outdoor venues has become a matter of preference, not health. Therefore, my preference to avoid seeing fat ladies in spandex pants is just as valid. You can compare fast food to cancer all you like, but it's not true and when you climb down off your high horse you'll understand. What gives you or anyone else the right to restrict or dicate the diets of other Americans? It's condescension on steroids.

As it happens, Dr. Mengele and his pals kept extensive records of their "experiments," and it has been a huge ethical problem for scientists ever since: do they make use of these excellent data, knowing how they were obtained. I wasn't comparing anyone to Nazis and only a nearly totally ignorant person would claim so.

Ok seriously, it is to the point where I am believing none of these people actually know who the Nazis were or what they were about. Not everything you disagree with is akin to Nazism, Facism, Communism...etc.

I am sure somehow thinking that makes ME a Nazi though ;)

I'm keeping an eye on you, Reinhard.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Ok, O'Reilly.

This, I guess, is supposed to be some sort of insult. I don't watch O'Reilly. Don't like O'Reilly. And have repeatedly posted why. You really need to freshen up your insults, which in fact aren't insulting. They're more in the nature of the murmurings of your maiden aunt Tilly after the Culligan man flexes his biceps.

I should have put my post in quotation marks. The line was delivered by Archie Bunker.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Well then, it's simple isn't it? Just pass enough laws and ordinances and hire enough cops and you can force Americans to behave in a way you (and the rest of the boring facists) think is "appropriate." It's possible to justify any encroachment on the rights of free people, especially using the tax/medical expense argument. That doesn't make it so. We should resist efforts to stop us from "acting bad" by governement.

Yeah, it sure is exciting to watch those people die from lung cancer, what a thrill when they spend years wasting away. Why is it a right to smoke but not a right to walk down the middle of the highway? Why can people smoke but not drive in reverse with no lights on during evening rush hour? Those things would be way more fun than smoking...we love the accidents in NASCAR, why limit them to the superspeedways?

If banning smoking promoted the common good, if it benefited far more people than it limited in terms of 'fun', why would people want to stop the government from banning it?

If we are going to have laws that supposedly protect the people, wouldn't that one protect more people than any other law not on the books, improve healthcare by freeing up doctors to treat people without self-induced terminal illness and improve the productivity of the workforce? Let's ban smokes here, lower the tax burden on RJR and let them sell cigarettes to the rest of the world...it could balance the golbal economy, let other countries be saddled with the costs, we'll just ring up the sales.

Nor permanently lowered, not as long as we have Democrats. The most creative people on earth when it comes to spending OPM.

Your hypotheticals and non sequitors are more suited to a high school debate than anything else.

Government is supposed to serve us, not the other way 'round--it's been in all the papers.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Government is supposed to serve us.

Yeah, how dare the government provide health care for all its citizens. That wouldn't serve them at all...

You know what, congrats. You've trolled with the best of them, and I salute you for that. You'd make the trolls on fark.com proud. Because there's simply no way anyone would believe all the bat**** spewing out of your mouth.

Yeah, like the Republicans are any better. How soon we forget what they spend money on the last time they were in power..............

1. A new entitlement.
2. Education.
3. A land war in Asia.

Wow, they're awesome. And conservative, don't forget conservative.

"I have a little list. They never will be missed."

How proud you must be that you and Justin Bieber have the same take on health care.

I agree. Something makes conservatives go Asiatic when they get to Washington. However, I was speaking of a longer time frame, say the New Deal, and we're still dealing with the damage from that.

The bigger mistake was what Lincoln did. We might actually have State rights and a Republic if it weren't for him. We'd have less States and a different country to the south of us, but we'd have our Republic.

Whew, for a second there I thought you were about to condemn that OTHER thing Lincoln did.

OTOH, condemning him for saving the union IS condemning him for the other thing, isn't it?

I'm glad you get to feel warm and fuzzy inside. What else does the government need to provide to one and for all? To what expense to the rest of us? C'mon... what other aspects of your morality should we impose?

edit: are we talking about health care because a judge who owns a quarter mill in health care stock upheld Obamacare today?

Or is this because "health care is a human right" or some other nonsense. If you haven't noticed, we don't have the money to pay for this new found "human right".

Seriously...time to change the prescription pops I said REFERENCED! You quote it it when you posted the least you could do is read it ;) :D :p

And how exactly am I restricting the diets of people? I said...TWICE...that I dont want it outlawed. I am not out picketing, I am not out telling people what to do or how to do it. If people want to get fat that is their deal. I said...TWICE that if the mayor wants to make it tough on fast food he should be allowed to. That is it, end of story. This boogeyman you have in the back of your mind is really impeding your ability to comprehend even the smallest of ideas! I mean it could be an act, hell I hope it is because I know 8 year olds with better reading comprehension :p

But just so you might read it by accident I AM NOT IN FAVOR OF RESTRICTING WHAT PEOPLE EAT! I never said I was, never implied it, never even hinted at it. hell the thought of such a thing makes me sick to my stomach. Maybe it is the air up here on my high horse ;)

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Years ago in Omaha I encountered a text book anti-smoking facist on my talk show. She advised me she had a "thank you for not smoking" sign on her front door. I agreed with her that that would probably put all those people who sneak into her home when she's not there for a quick butt on notice that she didn't approve. But nowdays most smokers ask first. And even if someone did light up, she could flutter over there and tell 'em to put it out or go outside. Oh, the humanity.

The one purpose her sign did serve (she got testy when I asked her if it lit up), of course, was to announce to the world what a special person she was.
You really hate it when other people have opinions, don't you?

OTOH, condemning him for saving the union IS condemning him for the other thing, isn't it?
In a weird way, I think you might be right.

To be fair to them, they didn't spend money on education, they made it an unfunded mandate to roll down to state and local.
