Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

I'm sure Wounded Knee was just a misunderstanding.

The Trail of Tears was really just the US helping the Natives move to new land where the farming was better.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

So... do you think we'll see more of that Wisconsin civility today... you know... the type that invades their state capitol buildings and trashes it, threaten's opposition legislators at their homes, threatens their relatives, slashes their tires... you know, democrat civility? Or do you think the Thugs will co-exist with the Tea Party.

Just setting the table in case things go sideways today in Madison. I think the incivility of the left should be marked beforehand when we start assigning blame to those "Teabaggerzes" who are trying to take their "precious"

edit: Why are we OK with OfA fomenting such incivility? Seeing as OfA is Obama's ground force it should then imply that he is responsible... why are we OK with this?

This is Wisconsin. The Thugs on the right side of the state are much more subtle. Their preferred approach is to move to Waukesha county so they don't have to live near minorities. I know that looks like a cheap shot, but the Milwaukee suburbs are a classic case of "white flight". My dad (who grew up here) told me about it, and I just wouldn't believe him until I actually moved here. It's actually quite astonishing.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Every teacher who submits a phony excuse form should be fired and investigated for theft and fraud. Every doctor who provides an excuse form to a person who is not his patient, whom he has not examined, for whom no records are kept should be hauled before the state medical board to explain these lapses in legal and ethical behavior. And loss or suspension of medical licenses should be on the table. In addition, these doctors should also be liable to charges of fraud, since they are enabling people they know or should have known are not ill with a license to pick the pockets of the taxpayers.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

More of the "new civility" as asked for by Obama

Columbia University students heckled a war hero during a town-hall meeting on whether ROTC should be allowed back on campus.

"Racist!" some students yelled at Anthony Maschek, a Columbia freshman and former Army staff sergeant awarded the Purple Heart after being shot 11 times in a firefight in northern Iraq in February 2008. Others hissed and booed the veteran.

Maschek, 28, had bravely stepped up to the mike Tuesday at the meeting to issue an impassioned challenge to fellow students on their perceptions of the military.

Let me guess, you're talking about the staged event on Fox News, right? Where a group of tea partiers essentially breitbarted the protests hoping to make the protestors look bad?

Surely Fox News wouldn't do that...would they?

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

Michelle Antoinette says "let them eat <strike>cake</strike> tofu" then jets to Vail and dines on fat and calorie laden short ribs.

The Vail reported The first lady went to Restaurant Kelly Liken on Saturday night and ate a pickled pumpkin salad and a braised ribs.

The family are staying at the upscale Sebastian Hotel on Vail Mountain, where rooms start at $650 a night and range up to more than $2,400 for multi-bedroom suites.
Luxury: The trip will cost the taxpayer thousands of dollars in security, at a time when the President is calling for spending restraint

The trip came just days after the President tried to sell his cost-cutting budget to the American people by asking them to stay at home.

‘If you’re a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, or you might put off a vacation,’ he said.

God, we're back on this **** again? I guess at least they're not claiming it costs $100 million/day to ski in Vail this time around.

Nice try. Except the doctors themselves are admitting to it.

One of the doctors was Lou Sanner, 59, who practices family medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Sanner said he gave out hundreds of notes and that many protesters with whom he spoke seemed to be suffering from stress.

"Some people think it's a nod-and-a-wink thing but it's not," he told The Associated Press on Sunday. "One of the biggest stresses in life is the threat of loss of income, loss of job, loss of health insurance. People have actually been getting ill from this, or they can't sleep."

And really? Just Fox News? The story was on CNN, in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Wisconsin State Journal, the AP ran a story, and on and on and on.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

I mean, seriously. If this was so "staged" don't you think the doctors implicated would be crying foul at the "staging"? Instead, they're cheerily admitting to it.

What we're back on again is the blatant hypocrisy of the "don't do as I do, do as I say" attitude from the "royal couple."

As for "they're not claiming blah, blah" - this report comes from the Daily Mail, not FNC. It seems that the media in Great Britain does a better job of reporting than the US lamestream media.

Oh c'mon -- we all know that if the left screams "it was on Faux News" then it must be staged.

Re: Obama Presidential Thread XIX: Starting a new chapter

I'm giving the Obamas a pass on the trip. Nix that, they don't even need a pass. What am I excusing? Every President needs vacations and needs a budget to conduct foreign policy. I'm willing to be the President is right in line with Bush and Clinton. Maybe not in raw dollars (inflation), but indexed for inflation, it's probably right about the same.

Ya. If it helps attract top talent to the job each election, enjoy! The only crime is that they didn't choose Aspen. :)

Depends if you want to ski, or to be seen skiing. (disclosure: I have an uncle who lives in Vail - I highly recommend getting one of those!)

It's even better when you live there - Aspen, not Vail. ;)

Didn't make a lot of $$, but the free three-mountain ski pass and the media pass from Colorado Ski Country USA more than made up for that! :D

Evidently the UW school of medicine was sucked in by the "staging," since it's investigating. I should think it would be a simple matter to track down those generic excuse slips and confirm the people submitting them weren't "patients" in any accepted sense of the word and that the "doctors" had done sidewalk diagnoses, with no records kept. You're a lawyer, couldn't that behavior violate state law? I mean, that doesn't sound like an appropriate standard of care to me.

I'd suspect it's more unethical than illegal, though I guess you could probably pursue a fraud claim against a teacher who used such a note to get sick pay or something like that.

Either way, this is way beyond a Fox News story.
Don't believe me? Ask the folks at the Atlantic.

Be that as it may, the story on Fox News was staged by known tea partiers...if it's gone beyond that, so be it.

Also, when the Obamas weigh 400 pounds each, then you can call them hypocrites. Until then, bagging on their vacations and eating habits is a farking joke. Or do you think Bush II didn't have security along during all his vacations to his ranch?

And exactly which part of the story was staged? Again, if it was staged, why aren't the doctors complaining about the "staging"? With UW Health investigating them now, you'd think they want to step forward if the whole story isn't being told. Why aren't they?

The doctors themselves don't dispute being there/handing out the notes, yet somehow you manage to?
