Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

She's as big a joke as you'll find

*rimshot*

But she was in that movie with Madonna??!

The guy who was really tough on conservatives was George Carlin. He hated liberals to, but I can't think of the anti-liberal line that competes with "Why is it that most people who are against abortion are people you would want to **** in the first place?"

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

George railed the liberals for "Save the Planet" and all that crap. As seen here:

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

And he was right. Liberals are idiots. So are conservatives. The only people who are smart are recovering 70 year old drug addicts who drop the f bomb a lot on stage.

I don't think he is going to recover:p :p

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Are you honestly trying to turn Rosie O'Donnell into a poster child for leftist humor? She's ****ing awful. I'm no conservative, but she's terrible. eaglehockey was closer with John Stewart and he was still wrong about that.

she right about one thing. she's rather eat ***** than the alternative.;)

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Like calling someone a Socialist or Communist.
Not true. If I state that I hate Obama, the left will proclaim me a racist. When in fact, I also hate Pelosi and Reid. Because I hate ALL socialist, regardless of race.

But when I call someone a socialist, their usual rebuttal is "97% of the people on Medicare like it".

He was never recovering...he did drugs until the day he died I would wager. (I had heard him talk about it before he never made it sound like he stopped)

My dad met him YEARS ago (early 70s) backstage and said the haze was crazy! And that is a lot for my dad to say considering he smokes more now than any man I have ever met!

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Honestly, I think if you are trying to deny there is no bias in the press towards Obama you nuts

Joy Behar, Rosie O'Donnell, and Jon Stewart are "news" bias?

I understand your need to try and balance out O'Reilly and Hannity as news sources by equating them to their liberal equivalents but Rosie may be going a bit too far.

How about Bernard Goldberg's book? Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News

As he sees it, you know, when he was a major player for a respected news agency, the biases weren't overt and generally not intentional. It just came about that since reporters tended to be liberal, they would discuss liberal things as though they were completely mainstream, not knowing that they were left-of-center. This would then translate into their news coverage.

Helen Thomas was once quoted (I'll have to paraphrase), I don't know how any journalist could not be liberal, given what we see during the course of our careers.

These are two highly regarded journalists. They seemed to readily admit to the bias as their careers wound down.

I wasn't arguing bias one way or another. I was pointing out the lunacy of his examples. As for bias, they all do it. Left, Right, there is no news right now. Associated Press is what I look for, and if that's the author of the piece then I know it's probably down the middle.

Haven't read the book. But seen enough to know that the claim of CBS being overtly 'liberal' is dubious.

I've listened to the BBC overseas...they continously cover Africa and the human condition for the poor. They expose far more catastrophies and frequently ask victims...'well how does that make you feel?' It reminds me much less of CBS reporting news items and much more of the Fox approach of forced political opinion. Compared to these two outliers...CBS is quite centrist and about news.

Any concerns about CBS are due to a warped lense. American is just shifted right due overarching adherence to concepts like open capitalism, overseas military adventurism and relatively high rates of censorship. And frankly, I don't mind it that much...but it is definitely the American right that is on the fringe of humanity...not the American left.

Doubt that.

Folks would likely say show any evidence that these people are socialist. Because anyone that makes this claim has absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

correct

incorrect. Any participant in any news org. might be the author of an AP-published piece (slanted either way). But the full-time APers are horribly biased leftward. It's gone the way of Newsweek; they're trying to hide it less and less.

Got to hand it to you, Major. You're a hard man to convince. Let me offer some CBS examples just off the top of my head, no research.

Dan Rather introduced fake documents a few days before the '04 voting in an effort to derail Bush. When the documents were shown to be fraudulent, Rather said it didn't matter. Really? Is that what they teach at J-school? This is the same Dan Rather who had smarted off to the president of the United States during a news conference. Regardless of what you thought of Nixon, he at least was elected, Rather was just an on the make punk in a cheap suit.

In '64, after the Republicans nominated Barry Goldwater, the senator took a break and went to Europe while the democrats nominated LBJ. Daniel Schorr was reporting on Goldwater's trip. And when Barry made a stop in Germany Schorr reported that there was talk Goldwater was seeking political alliance with "extreme right wing elements" in Germany. We all know what that means. This smear of a United States senator, Lieutenant General in the Air Force reserve and a guy who flew 60 missions "over the hump" in Burma went unremarked in the MSM. Just good reporting. My azz.

CBS did an anti-Vietnam "documentary" in which they edited General Westmoreland's comments in a way that put meaning he didn't intend into his words. It was done deliberately, of course, and IIRC, Westmoreland took 'em to court and won.

They also did a famous "documentary" on hunger in America, during which a dead infant was shown as a victim of "hunger." Trouble was, the baby was the child of a young Latino physician, and its death had nothing to do with nutrition. In CBS's world, one dead kid is as good as another, when you're making your point. Again, is that what they teach in J-school?

A few years ago "60 minutes" attempted to whip up national anxiety about the pesticide alar (used on apples, and kids drink apple juice in school, get it?)Who did they trot out to make this point? Why none other than the noted chemist and additive expert Meryl Streep!

As I say, the above examples are off the top of my head. There are others, but I'm too lazy to do the research. In part because I'm pretty sure it wouldn't change your opinion, but CBS has been and continues to be biased and willing to overlook the most basic conventions of journalism when it suits their purposes. But in "Majorworld," evidently, the ends justify the means. You would think, though, that if the merits of the left were so self evident, it wouldn't be necessary to cheat, wouldn't you?

As to your apparant fondness for any system other than ours, you'll have to live with that.

No need to do research...but...

The things you mentioned were a handful of specific episodes over 50 years. Your key example was one guy, Rather, who was biased...you take him out and a CBS track record of bias is thin at most in this generation.

The big difference is that stations like CBS or CNBC have a few examples of individuals that have opinions. CNBC has guys like Kudlow and Jim Cramer that may appear to push that network to the right...but in reality, they are a couple of isolated guys with a few opinions. Frankly, if Fox would have had dirt on Obama and held it back a month or so...it would have been one of the most mild mannered acts they committed all campaign.

These other channels are nothing like the real left and right wing media outlets. Hannity, OReilly, Beck, Huckabee, Coulter, Palin...its each of these and every single day. BBC and Fox have institutionalized bias so that there agenda is melded in with news.

Institutionalized agenda=biased.

...and no need to belittle my pov, just show how I'm wrong.

Oh dear Lord, you do realize that all the people you mentioned are commentators who are paid to offer their opinions on the news?
