Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now
Haven't read the book. But seen enough to know that the claim of CBS being overtly 'liberal' is dubious.
I've listened to the BBC overseas...they continously cover Africa and the human condition for the poor. They expose far more catastrophies and frequently ask victims...'well how does that make you feel?' It reminds me much less of CBS reporting news items and much more of the Fox approach of forced political opinion. Compared to these two outliers...CBS is quite centrist and about news.
Any concerns about CBS are due to a warped lense. American is just shifted right due overarching adherence to concepts like open capitalism, overseas military adventurism and relatively high rates of censorship. And frankly, I don't mind it that much...but it is definitely the American right that is on the fringe of humanity...not the American left.
Doubt that.
Folks would likely say show any evidence that these people are socialist. Because anyone that makes this claim has absolutely no idea what they're talking about.
Got to hand it to you, Major. You're a hard man to convince. Let me offer some CBS examples just off the top of my head, no research.
Dan Rather introduced fake documents a few days before the '04 voting in an effort to derail Bush. When the documents were shown to be fraudulent, Rather said it didn't matter. Really? Is that what they teach at J-school? This is the same Dan Rather who had smarted off to the president of the United States during a news conference. Regardless of what you thought of Nixon, he at least was elected, Rather was just an on the make punk in a cheap suit.
In '64, after the Republicans nominated Barry Goldwater, the senator took a break and went to Europe while the democrats nominated LBJ. Daniel Schorr was reporting on Goldwater's trip. And when Barry made a stop in Germany Schorr reported that there was talk Goldwater was seeking political alliance with "extreme right wing elements" in Germany. We all know what that means. This smear of a United States senator, Lieutenant General in the Air Force reserve and a guy who flew 60 missions "over the hump" in Burma went unremarked in the MSM. Just good reporting. My azz.
CBS did an anti-Vietnam "documentary" in which they edited General Westmoreland's comments in a way that put meaning he didn't intend into his words. It was done deliberately, of course, and IIRC, Westmoreland took 'em to court and won.
They also did a famous "documentary" on hunger in America, during which a dead infant was shown as a victim of "hunger." Trouble was, the baby was the child of a young Latino physician, and its death had nothing to do with nutrition. In CBS's world, one dead kid is as good as another, when you're making your point. Again, is that what they teach in J-school?
A few years ago "60 minutes" attempted to whip up national anxiety about the pesticide alar (used on apples, and kids drink apple juice in school, get it?)Who did they trot out to make this point? Why none other than the noted chemist and additive expert Meryl Streep!
As I say, the above examples are off the top of my head. There are others, but I'm too lazy to do the research. In part because I'm pretty sure it wouldn't change your opinion, but CBS has been and continues to be biased and willing to overlook the most basic conventions of journalism when it suits their purposes. But in "Majorworld," evidently, the ends justify the means. You would think, though, that if the merits of the left were so self evident, it wouldn't be necessary to cheat, wouldn't you?
As to your apparant fondness for any system other than ours, you'll have to live with that.
