I haven't specifically heard, but I would guess that it might be that more people have given up looking for work and thus aren't officially counted in the most often quoted unemployment figures. i.e. More people could actually be without a job even though the "official" unemployment rate has dropped slightly. The unemployment figures are manipulated so much that it's longer term trends that are important rather than short term fluctuations. It's hard to trust any economic numbers coming out of Washington these days regardless of which party is in control.

A while back I posted a process flow of how the unemployment numbers are calculated and have to say that Bill is right to say that you cannot count on unemployment figures. They are the classic "...liars figure" content. Politicians selectively pull out certain stats to bolster their position but they rarely include the full picture.

I'll look for the flow again...it was informative*.




*and by informative I mean it showed the books are cooked by the government to keep reported unemployment down.

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on today's unemployment numbers, since the Dept of Labor will typically "revise" them in a few weeks.

It is down... but its still at 9.7%... I will fault Obama because he keeps threatening to change the dynamics every week... you can't play the game if you don't know the freaking rules... that principle applies doubly to money.

Oh, so you know what "people" think about me? I won't trouble you with any evidence to back up that ridiculous claim. So I'll just respond to you. It's been my experience that people who attribute racist motives to folks with whom they disagree are incapable of intelligent discussion of issues. Thus they resort to name calling. Nothing I have ever posted would lead a fair minded person to conclude I was racist. On the other hand, some folks see racism everywhere they look. It's so much easier than actually thinking.

Our president is a Harvard trained lawyer, professor of law at Harvard and he can't properly pronounce the word "corps?" Give me a break. Then give me a Kit Kat. Maybe he's not the smartest kid in the class after all.

I am starting to believe that Obama capitalized on the biased-media in the assumption that he is some sort of grand scholar with extraordinarily high intelligence. Notice no source ever validates that claim via grades or intelligent quotient scores?! OK, so Dubya went to Harvard B school

Even Dubya, love him or hate him, released all of his college transcripts for the world to see. Not surprising, Obama is the first president to keep his academic records hidden from the public -> kind of keeps the mystery and mystique of hope and change alive!

Call it what it is: Obama is the product of Equal Opportunity Placement, timing, and a mathematical majority of the USA just being tired of G W Bush.

Exactly. I've posted previously that throwing the word "racist" around is the modern equivalent of calling someone "soft on communism" in the 50's. It's not an argument, it's an argument stopper, deliberately deployed to change the subject or to shut an opponant up. How do you defend yourself?

I am not buying it. One could easily claim EEO again, and it should not be controversial as leftists enjoy crying "racism" when opposing views are presented. Maybe Obama was good at English, grammar and fact checking case law in codification texts; however, what did he publish while in Law School? How come his senior thesis and transcripts are still kept from the general public? If he is so gifted (I admit he delivers a great speech when on the teleprompter, but stammers just like Bushie when flying solo) how come he was unable to get his super majority of Dems to pass health care?

What are these great measures of intelligence that the left-biased media proclaim of Obama? Proof, let's see some objective evidence! No, it is too easier to run with an idea created by the press that bolsters your reputation... even though it may not be truthful. That's what I am guessing, and I may be wrong.

One thing is for sure, the people are tired of being hoodwinked and bamboozled with the Obama-love fest; that was evident by the middle of the road/indy folks voting-in Republicans in Virginia, New Jersey, and gasp, heaven forbid Kennedy's seat. Especially since the RNC is in a heap of rubble!

My father has been out over a year... I half joked that he should pick up conversational spanish but he dismissed that idea out of hand. He's a warehouse manager... not many people buying stuff of any type so that whole market contracts.

No numbers other than "6%" can honestly be considered good
