Re: Obama 6(...66)

Nice spin:rolleyes:

One of O'Keefe's friends said she stopped working with him after she found out he was editing/altering the video tapes and he told her he was going to do it anyway. It was in yesterday's Strib, but I can't find a link yet. Will try when I get home later.

A Political Gadfly Lampoons the Left via YouTube

“He likes making waves,” Mr. Levitsky added. “But the hidden camera simply shows the truth.”

Not everyone among Mr. O’Keefe’s acquaintances agrees. Liz Farkas, a Rutgers student who called Mr. O’Keefe “a nice guy and a loyal friend,” said she grew disillusioned after he asked her to help edit the script of a Planned Parenthood sting.

“It was snippets to make the Planned Parenthood nurse look bad,” Ms. Farkas said. “I said: ‘It has no context. You’re just cherry-picking the nurse’s answers.’ He said, ‘Okay’ — and then he just ran it.”

Re: Obama 6(...66)

I just wanted to respond to a couple of points from a number of pages earlier that were never investigated further.

Barack Obama's Religion -

As of March of this year, the pew research center showed that 11% of Americans falsely believed Obama to be Muslim, with less than half of all Americans able to correctly identify him as a christian
http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1176/obama-muslim-opinion-not-changed
Of note, 17% of all republicans polled believed him to be Muslim, as well as 19% of white Evangelicals polled.
Also interesting, in late 2008, a separate poll (not linked here) showed nearly 25% of Texans believed Obama to be Muslim.

Second, on the point of tax cuts and socialist agenda -

Trying to peg down specifics on current tax structure has proven difficult. While this is part of a stimulus package, the $300 billion tax cut does run counter to any sort of socialist ideology.

Re: Obama 6(...66)

What is the source for Obama's tax cut information? We need details to back it up, not just a statement saying it exists. Most Obama "tax cuts" may very well be "welfare" when it comes right down to it. Any of it that consists of refund/rebate/tax credit money that is going to low income citizens who don't even pay income taxes isn't really a tax cut; it's welfare.

No, actually I was asking you to support your tax cut statement with a detailed source. If Obama is sending "tax cut" money to people who don't pay income taxes, that's welfare. I didn't say anything about tax increases, although I have no doubt that's coming under Obama.

I also take issue with this. Most people, even those earning substantially less than average, pay federal income taxes. According to the 2008 IRS tax table (http://www.tipsity.com/taxes/2009/2008-federal-income-tax-table-1040-2009-tax-brackets, even a single parent of two, earning wages below the poverty line ($17,400 as determined by the U.S. Census Bureau, http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/threshld/thresh08.html), pays $2,000 in taxes each year. While some may note that they receive this back in "welfare", it is also worth pointing out that the U.S. Census Bureau determined 38 million Americans in 2008 to be living below the poverty line (http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/p60-236.pdf) while at the same time only 4.3 million Americans (1.8 million households) received any TANF payments (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/data-reports/annualreport8/ar8index.htm. I will however note that it is possible to receive aid in the form of "food stamps" (such as WIC, EBT) or Medicare without enrolling in TANF (TANF being the federal program acting as welfare support for needy families).

EDIT:
The link to the 2008 tax table is 8 paragraphs down on the page linked.

There's no room under the rug after all the GOP scandals. I'll try the closet. No wait, that's filled with Republicans too...

Speaking of closets, at least the next time Barney Frank wants to open a home based personal services business he knows he can get tax advice from ACORN (assuming the workers are young enough).

This is essentially a poll of who will self-identify as a world champion nitwit. The numbers are a tad low -- I suspect some nitwits are being modest.

In somewhat related news, I guess, Minnesota's own guv TimmyP is forming a PAC to explore the viability of a 2012 White House run.

Today's entertainment is provided by Alaska's favorite daughter and recently resigned governor, Sarah Palin, during her "speech" in Hong Kong ...

Mrs. Palin's address was officially closed to the media. The Wall Street Journal reviewed a recording of the speech.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, in what was billed as her first public-speaking engagement outside North America, blamed the world financial crisis on government excesses and called for a new round of deregulation and tax cuts for U.S. businesses.

She opposed appointing the Fed as the chief overseer of systemic risk in the U.S. financial system. "The words 'fox' and 'henhouse' come to mind. The Fed's decisions have created the bubble," she said.

On health care, Mrs. Palin defended her previous criticisms that the health-care overhaul proposed by Democrats would lead to health-care rationing and what she called "death panels." "It's just common sense that government attempts to solve problems like health care problem will just create new problems." She called for "market friendly" health care reform that gives tax breaks to individuals to buy health insurance.

She also spoke about how Alaska once shared a land bridge with Asia. And she noted that her husband's Eskimo ancestors crossed that bridge. "To consider that connection that allowed sharing of peoples and bloodlines and wildlife and flora and fauna, that connection to me is quite fascinating," she said.
