Glad to see Obama finally weigh in on this. A pragmatic and reality based understanding of the race issues in this country. While this probably won't shut up the true racists or those who see racism everywhere, it's a great statement by the President.

At least now I can disagree with Obama on health care with a clear conscience despite what some here may have inferred.

ahh... leave it to rover to be all happy about the prospect of free nations falling under the thumb of an increasingly malevolent Russian state just because it's a mark against his political opponents. A system so questionable that it gave the Russians fits. What happened to our general ideal of promoting democracy and providing the ability of states to be able to operate without the threat of other nations. What happened to that liberty ideal that drove people to help out other nations and lands?

Gosh I don't want to get in to this, but he didn't mention or even suggest an invasion. I believe the phrase was under the thumb of the Russians. You know, hegemony. As in "The United States has hegemony in the western hemisphere."

The activist left (such as DU and other websites) were actively calling for somebody to save them from Bush and all the rest and Obama fit that perfectionist mold. While they never used the "messiah" term outright there was definitely calls for that kind of a perfect politician who would save them from the idiotic evil republicans and lead them to a better progressive tomorrow.

Feeling the need to be rescued from many strategic mistakes and a horrible economy of GOP rule...does not equal hero worship.

The activist left was happy with the candidate. So what? The main problem with conservatives...is that they are afraid of being wrong and are totally incapable of defending any stance...and so they solidly back no candidate and have no platform. So rather than say nothing...they're forced to attack the other side. And when they find nothing to attack the other side with...they resort to a tactic of saying the left worship their candidate (of which there is no evidence). Still conservatives have no politician they back and offer no plan. Exhibit A1 as to why their type cannot be allowed back into any leadership role in government...they have no actual platform.

As someone who's owned property in Russia and has spent years in eastern EU...how exactly is any of this causing eastern europe to fall under the thumb of Russia?
