This is a random question for the Christian members of the forum.
Is it just me or is it brutally blasphemous for people to even associate Obama with Jesus? Some of my right wing friends have been mocking Obama as being the Messiah...I haven't met a single person who has actually called Obama the Messiah even though people tend to think he can do no wrong.
Honestly I think post 9/11 Bush got even more leeway than this.

It is more than the hype, it is the visceral reaction that people have to them. (see also: Mauer, Joe) I mean when Parise didn't win the Hobey there were people saying he "Put aside his chance at individual awards to win a NC at UND" and such nonsense. Whenever Joe Mauer gets a hit some old lady in St. Paul has a coronary with a smile on her face and fake sideburns hanging down! Obama does the same thing for people on the Left.

The activist left (such as DU and other websites) were actively calling for somebody to save them from Bush and all the rest and Obama fit that perfectionist mold. While they never used the "messiah" term outright there was definitely calls for that kind of a perfect politician who would save them from the idiotic evil republicans and lead them to a better progressive tomorrow.
As for "blasphemy".... now you're just looking to denigrate those who mockingly call Obama "the messiah". Its hardly blasphemous to point out false Gods and false idols. Obama is certainly one as such. Lets face it, even the campaign itself used such ideal iconography to promote itself and appealed to its own ephemeral properties of goodness and righteousness. To much of the left Obama was the IMAGE of what they all wanted in a president and one who would lead to what is seen as the ideal state of the country in victory of those who are seen as wicked.
If you haven't seen those overtones out there then you just aren't looking.

Obama has dealt only with the financial crisis and there's been a deep split on how to handle such a crisis. Even other "crisis" state has been hyped up for the matter of political expediency (green crisis, auto crisis, and health crisis). If you step out the door today the only crisis that can be immediately felt is the economic one... all the others are a load of crap and while they might be problems they hardly fit the crisis mode.

ahh... leave it to rover to be all happy about the prospect of free nations falling under the thumb of an increasingly malevolent Russian state just because it's a mark against his political opponents. A system so questionable that it gave the Russians fits. What happened to our general ideal of promoting democracy and providing the ability of states to be able to operate without the threat of other nations. What happened to that liberty ideal that drove people to help out other nations and lands?

This has more to do with the fact that these teabaggers strongly correlate with non-urban folk who treat a city (and Washington DC in particular) as an amusement park. They thought the monorail ride was too crowded.
