Re: Obama 6(...66)

....case in point - now Rover's going back over 60 years to get his hero off the hook *today*.

No surprise..."Obamapologist" was coined well before the election.

Re: Obama 6(...66)

Ppppttt! Everybody knows Obama helped the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor ... :p

Re: Obama 6(...66)

What a list and all W's fault, eh? And The One is gonna change all that? I don't think it's gonna take him 8 years. And the way he's going now he may not get 8 years. Oh well, he can always be General Secretary at the UN.

Yes it is quite a list...is it any surprise that the budget is so high this year? And W's responsibility varies on each but is substantial across the board...as he controlled or led nearly all levers of public policy for most of the period.

The net message is that the right voted for this leadership over and over again...and as a result, this generation of the right has shown they can't be trusted on policy opinion. Period.

 The war in Bosnia was 60 years ago? Dtp, I think you need to attend some night classes in History at UNH....:D  :D

You're so cute.

BTW - The people keeping us out of helping England before Pearl Harbor were Isolationist Republicans - the worst political movement in this country until neo-conartists reared their ugly heads.

2009-1941 = 68

OK, make that 68 years, not 60.....actually it would be over 70 years per your frame of reference.

I may be way off the track as usual but I believe part of the reason for high deficits is a nearly $800 billion dollar "stimulus" package most of which hasn't been spent and is designed not to "stimulate" the economy but to "stimulate" the re-election of cheap politicians.

I haven't made an in depth study of this monstrosity but one particular expenditure did catch my eye: a $15 million allocation to upgrade the border cossing checkpoint at Whitetail, Montana--population 71. Average number of people who cross each day: 3. I hope we're not too late.

Thank you, but I'm used to hearing that from women, not other men. Who are you, Sen Larry Craig? Remind me to stay out of the men's room at Manchester-Boston Int'l Airport. :D

Was talking about a different subject. Old Pio brought up two points: 1) alleged anti-war efforts on the left, while skipping over a more recent example on the right (Slobo-Bosnia). 2) A revisionist history where somehow it was the left that didn't want to go to England's aide in the 30's, when in fact it was the right who wanted to leave them to the whims of the Nazi's. My duty was to set up straight on both counts. ;)

You cheapened your argument with everything you've posted since the bolded statement. I completely agree with that sentiment, which is why attacking someone else for going after party affiliation just didn't make any sense to me.

The single largest problem in this country is the sense of entitlement that has overtaken several generations of Americans.

I’m not sure this is limited to one side or the other, although I agree this is a problem. Just as there are liberals that want to provide handouts (for starters), there are conservatives that run after committing financial crimes, hide behind lawyers and corporate jargon to avoid prosecution, will do anything to keep their bratty kids from being nailed for poor behavior, etc., etc.

This in essence summarizes my beef with Pio blaming liberals en masse. Yeah, there are liberal policies and liberals that drive me batty and contribute to our mess, but this happens from the right as well. Our issues in total are apolitical - humanity itself has digressed in this country and this is not limited to a ‘side’. You want to blame liberals for a specific problem, be my guest and make your point. But to just flat out decry, “the problem with this country is liberals….” aint gonna fly.

Personally, I generally support our presidents when they use force to get the attention of dictators. IMHO the world is always marginally better when a Saddam Hussein is dangling from the end of a rope or we lob a cruise missile into Slobo's rumpus room or we bomb Libyan dictators and shoot down their MIGS. Because apart from whatever good arises from these events, other dictators must calculate our response to any future evil doing. The implicit message is: there's more where that came from. Bin Laden talks about weak horse, strong horse. I much prefer to be the latter.

And I believe I've explained what I meant when I said the left opposed our entry into World War II. It was the communists, who only felt the necessity to get in (long after the Battle of Britain) when the Panzers were rolling toward Moscow. Then it became our sacred duty, etc. etc.

You're entitled to your opinions of course. But it would be nice if you'd respond to what I actually say, rather than what you think I "actually mean." I never said nor implied the problem with this country is liberals. I don't think that for a minute. But you go right ahead responding with fatuous nonsense to imagined points if it makes you feel better.

Re: Obama 6(...66)

I’m referring to your, “The problem is…” statement. That’s a problem, not the problem. I probably extrapolated that further than I should have so in that regard, mea culpa.

It is worth it if we dont let the people who cross the border out come back in...the less people in Montana the better

Re: Obama 6(...66)

Anyone following the deal in Mass? In 2004 Ted kennedy wanted a law changed that allowed the governor of Mass. to appoint a new senator if the old one didn't finish out his term, why, John Kerry was running for president and their was a republican governor(mitt Romney), the mass legislature passed a new law calling for a special election if a senator leaves before his term is up. A few months ago, Teddy suggests they change the law back, why? Deval Patrick a democrat is now governor. New Orleans and Chicago have nothing on Mass.

One other thing, John kerry throws an earmark into the defense bill, 20 miilion for some Teddy Kennedy library or building?. Will Obama sign a bill with earmarks in it?

I think most feel that holding the line against terrorism is a 'good thing' in isolation. But the vast majority of the world is made up of countries that have significant say in their govt and participate in international activities normally. Worldwide, people are looking at things more similar every day (due to things like the internet), the English language continues to spread like wildfire...and everyone is travelling and trading at rates unheard of. So while it is important to 'speak softly and carry a big stick' in regards to an individual dictator...diplomacy needs to at least consider the other audience of billions that hear these messages. This both reduces the number of terrorists and improves American business prospects overseas significantly

Lastly, much of the isolationist sentiment for WWII came from German sympathizers. Many Germans were just a generation or two from immigration...arguably the most famous Minnesotan, Lindbergh, was a strict isolationist and at the same time was accused of being a racist and Nazi.

Re: Obama 6(...66)

So the world is a better place because we took out Saddam Hussein?

Even though we left a gigantic power vacuum in the region? Even though the only thing that logically held Iraq together by its fanciful borders was Hussein's iron fist?

Even though as soon as we leave it's all going to go to poop because the Kurds want their own country and Turkey doesn't want them to have it?

I like it. Remember when Tom Delay was leaning on every state with a GOP majority to redistrict their Congressional seats to favor Republicans, even if they'd already gone through the post-Census process already? The answer from righties was "start winning elections then".

Well, what goes around comes around. ;) Start winning elections in Massachusetts and you won't have these problems. :p

I knew you'd like it, you love corruption when you believe it favors you

Nothing wrong with a little graft, as long as you spread it around evenly. Again, you root for Maine hockey. Kinda ironic, wouldn't you say? :D
