Norwich Women's Hockey

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

They are going to be a great team but they have some very unique challenges.

What are the very unique challenges?.....every year any given team will have to acquire chemistry with players coming and going but that's a challenge everyone deals with....that's life:D

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

I think you are correct there will be some challanges.....I think there will be some unhappy players that saw ice time last season that may not make the squad this time around. I think it will really show what the coaching staff is made of....I know most of these guys from my time at the "Wich" and I think they will be fine but if they let people hang around who are just unhappy and not playing just so that they can be "a part of the team" it could come back and bite them in the a**. I have been around hockey long enough to know that this type of player can quickly become a cancer in the locker room and take a team that should be a great team and it can turn them into a team full of turmoil and one that never gets the opportunity to reach their goal. I hope the coaches realize this and just keep those players that will be able to compete for ice time and limit their roster to the 25 or 26 players that they need to compete during a tough NCAA season. I know it is great to be a "great group of guys" and try to make everyone happy but I think the reality is that you can not do that with this many players:(

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Bolding and his staff know what they are doing and capable of handling this great situation however not every chemist has total control of his lab. Hopefully the acids and bases won't mix in the locker room.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

I mostly follow the men's program but catch a women's game now and then. I saw the list of recruits/transfers and couldn't believe the quanity and quality of the recruits. Question I asked myself is how can one program recruit so many A type players? Heck even the mens team didn't bring any D1 transfers this year. I don't think Norwich women want to go D1 but it would interesting to see them play a D1 team pre-season like the men do or schedule a high level Canadian U team. Seeing both the men's and women's team play a team like Dartmouth or Clarkson the same day would a great day of hockey. Also with the football/general purpose athletic field scheduled for completion next year it is quite a time for Norwich sports. I am also very impressed with Mark Bolding as the coach of the womens team.

Norwich has tremendous financial advantages that almost no other school has. They would have no chance whatsoever on the ice against Clarkson or Dartmouth if they were to play this year. It would be a wipeout.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Norwich came into the 2010-11 season with a similar number of players on the roster and a similar size recruiting class. That season turned out pretty well.

Over the last two seasons Norwich has lost the players that the program was built on and helped establish the quick rise in the ranks to the top of the D3 world.

Sophie Leclerc, Cindy Fortin, Julie Fortier, Melissa Rundlett, Sarianne Lynn and Amanda Wilks to name a few are gone now and coming into this season there are holes to fill.

This class is simply a reprentation of a program and coaching staff committed to maintaining the success and tradition that has been established at Norwich over the past five years.

You are absolutely correct Prez. Look, these athletes/students are applying/coming to Bolding/Norwich and who can blame them. The hockey program/institution is arguably the best out there. All emotion and drama aside, Mark’s 1st priority is to put the best possible team on the ice NO?

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Prez can you tell me if the women's hockey team has made a Carly Rae Jepsen Call me Maybe video. I have notice a number of college athletic teams and even some US Army units making these video's. If there is a video I would appreciate the link.

I didn't see Taylor Cross, Maggie Cross, Madison Gallagher on the roster for the game on Wednesday. Are they not playing or injured?

The stats page had 23 skaters plus the 3 tenders. Will that mean there are 8 players not dressing every game or will there be some trimming of the roster?
