Norwich Women's Hockey

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

The stats page had 23 skaters plus the 3 tenders. Will that mean there are 8 players not dressing every game or will there be some trimming of the roster?

That is a LOT of stands players. And I don't think they can dress more than 22 (including goaltenders) for an NCAA game. If this is going to be the approach, at some point the future recruits are going to notice and start thinking if it is worth going to a school where 40% of the roster sits every game and you don't get a scholarship.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Norwich beats Ontario Hockey Academy tonight in Exhibition action at Kreitzberg Arena by a score of 3-2.

Kaycie Anderson, Jillayne DeBus and Alison Green with Norwich goals.

I actually got to see some of this game......you could really tell that as an organized group this Cadet team has not been together too long. They really struggled at times and looked out of sync, which I expected, seeing as how they only had a few days on the ice with coaches. They looked like a bigger team, size wise, overall then what they have in the past but I think early on they may find life without a Sopie LeClerc or Julie Fortier a bit trying....not that one will not emerge because I think one will, but judging by tonight, and I know it's early, but no one veteran or rookie was willing to take that role yet.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

He might have been giving the bubble players a look to see where they land and showcase them a little and the people sitting out have almost definitely made the team.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Most coaches like to keep a least a couple of extra on the roster in case of injury or someone "slacking" during practices. You'd be amazed at how much more competitive practices are when a playing spot is on the line.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Where are you Norwich fans? ... Castleton is coming in at two and oh ... Cadets have two ties so far ... very little was said here about the East-West either ... Where are you all hiding?

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Good question...Castleton should have a good team this year. If they can come out like Elmira did they could surprise the cadets? I think this will be a close game...Coach Bowes is doing a great job and hopefully in 2-3 years we could see the rivalry between these two teams just like the one on the men's side.

I think Norwich would have come out "two and oh" against Oswego and Cortland St. not sure if Castleton would have been 0-0-2 against Platty and Elmira? Probably the farthest down Norwich has been on the ECAC Standings page in a long time.

Castleton 2-0
Salve Regina 2-0
Holy Cross 1-0
Nichols 1-0
St. Anselm 1-0
New England Col. 1-0-1
Norwich 0-0-2
Mass.-Boston 0-0
Plymouth St. 0-0
Southern Me.0-0
St. Michael's 0-0
Manhattanville 0-2

Wow.....I just got back home after watching this game yesterday and I could just reuse my last paragraph all over again....This team has some work to do.....2 times they have gone into the 3rd period against good hard working teams (Platty & St. A's) with a 2 goal lead and come up with a tie and a loss.......Not sure if you can't call conditioning into the mix........This is an individually talented team but they look just like that....a bunch of individuals....still not a number 1 team and I am sure that the pollers will feel the same this week.....Not sure what the staff was telling this team but the D looked confused and pressured by St. A's 2 man aggressive forecheck, other teams may want to watch this film:)....I would think with the experience they have back there that the D could have used the high glass and such to free up some of their speedsters for rushes the other way, but I never saw that happen......Maybe the staff had other ideas or thought the team had it under control with the 2 goal lead going into the 3rd.....But I have watched this staff since this teams inception and do not think that is the case....Cadets, you have a lot of work to do before you can just rely on your past and think teams will just lie down for you:)

Although I am in agreement with some of what you say, I am sure that the staff covered some of the different options to overcome the forecheck that St A's was using. I am sure that Coach Bolding & his staff were not at all happy with what they have seen with this team so far this season and that it has been and will continue to be addressed. That being said, I do feel that you have hit on a couple of things here that I would have to agree with you on.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Thought we could bring this thread back to life...Good win for the ladies. It was only a matter of time before the streak was broken but it appears the girls responded well with a 4-1 win over Holy Cross. I’m looking forward to upcoming game between Bowdoin and Norwich. Always fun to watch the ECAC East vs. NESCAC. Hopefully the rivalry between Norwich & Middlebury will get to the same level as the men.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

During my 4 year at Norwich as a parent (7 years to some) we were used to always being the underdog so it’s hard to get excited anymore now that they are the team to beat. In fact, it seems a disappointment when the Norwich ladies don’t come thru with a convincing win, let alone a tie.

I always enjoy Maniac’s frank dialog though and by and large agree with his comments.
Speaking of which, that “old” #9 has now moved on to a new leadership role as girl’s hockey coach and other duties at a prep school in New Hampshire. Anyone interested in sending/attending a good little school with an up and coming girls hockey program under the tutelage of a proven winner may want to contact her accordingly. (I know, a plug)

Winning cures almost all...hopefully NU strings together a few more here against some good competition.

Looking forward to seeing you at Watson Saturday afternoon! Hope the Polar Bears provide more of a competitive challenge to the Cadets than they did in their trip over to Plattsburgh.
GO U BEARS!!!
