Norwich Women's Hockey

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

still a month of waiting for the first big show....any rumblings in the hills yet..........

This may not qualify as "rumblings" to some but interesting to note that Mr Dunning is now on staff at Norwich....

"Derek Dunning, a journalism major from SUNY Oswego, will also be joining the department as an assistant director.

Dunning has extensive experience in sports reporting and media relations. He is currently a sports reporter for a local newspaper and a writer for U.S. College Hockey."

Congrats to Derek and welcome to our "family".

Thanks. Everything has been going great so far and I'm looking forward to the season.

Marginal at best. I can skate...But can't stop to save my life.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Hate to revisit this again but ...Is the Sophie Leclerc deal all set for the upcoming season? I had heard that there was a problem that may have been overlooked and it was not set in stone that the NCAA would grant the 5th year. With Sophie this team will be a very good team but I still think from what I know about some of the new recruits that they will not over achive like they did a year ago. Just my opinion but with the exception of a couple of the recruits, I think too much is being made of this team as a whole. They will be good but I doubt they did enough to take out Platty or for that matter even Elmira again......time will tell, and to get this thread rolling I am saying that they will not win the ECAC East and that they will finish behind at the very least M'Ville. I think the talent level of incoming talent has been overblown and as the season progresses the staff will realize this..........Still a big supporter of this team but I do not think they did as much to improve as some of the other big hitters did.

She is on campus awaiting to hear word.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

While she is a great player and a super contributor, I really don't think that Norwich's season depends solely on the return of Sophie Leclerc. Norwich only graduated 3 Seniors last year and among them Ms Leclerc was the only one that played all 31 games. Unless there have been some unpublished defections, Norwich is returning 20 skaters and BTD lists 4 Canadian recruits. I would also bet that there are a number of other recruits/walk ons fighting for spots too. Do we know when the rosters will be posted?

I predict a tough battle this year among the top 4 ECAC East teams and Norwich will be in there fighting for the top.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

There is no doubt Norwich is building a top program. My question is does bringing Ms. Leclerc back justify the risk? What if she gets whatever approval to play and there is a protest or appeal of that decision? Would you want to risk tainting the season or potential sanctions down the line?

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

"...a canonating shot from the point is quickly deflected to the corner by newcomer Dunning...I think he's going to have a great season if he continues to block shots like this...Jim" ;)

All I know is now my email just got the same story with Dunning's byline on it
