Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

Another former Cadet has signed a pro deal.

Pier-Olivier Cotnoir has signed a contract with the Newcastle NorthStars of the Australian Ice Hockey League. Newcastle plays their first game on Saturday, April 20.

This is the same league that former Middlebury sniper Mickey Gilchrist joined in 2008 and tore it up.

I don't know if its 100 percent true as I only know that Norwich's date is correct, but still pretty cool:

Pier had a goal and two assists in his first game with the Newcastle North Stars of the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

I forgot to mention that when the season is done down under, Pier is signing a contract to play in Germany.

And NUProf, Pier applied for and recieved a scholorship. He will be also be doing grad school.
(as it was announced in another place, I can comment on it)

Thanks for that info! That is major good news. Yes, I always worry about the academic future of our grads.

Well, it was just announced, and it does cost a substantial amount of money per game. DI is far better able to support those costs, while at DIII the money generally has to be raised by sponsorships, and donations.

Personally, it's now a gimmick that is being overused. Once was fun, but more- meh, not so much.

Hey, that second weekend the tentative schedule has the Cadets at UMass-Boston (Friday) and Babson (Saturday) ... why not?

I think the outdoor game thing has kind of "jumped the shark." It's the kind of thing that stops being special if it done too often. It's like when "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" first came on as a one-week special event, it was really neat, but then ABC overdid it until it faded into obscurity. Then NBC did the same thing with "Deal or No Deal." Major League Baseball has done it with interleague play, too. Too much of a good thing ruins the "good thingness" of an event.
