Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

Rigging the system as usual?

They can't play Dartmouth. That means they need to find an opponent with an open date early in the season. Should they look for a team that won't be ranked to play, or schedule a game with Canton? I think the NCAA should have allowed ex. games before Nov. 1, but the didn't.

I bet Oswego could find an opening.

Would they have been available on Nov. 1 or 2? The ECAC East schedule starts on Nov 8, because of the stupid move to split the semis and finals, so they didn't have a lot of flexibility. If OSW were available, I would have loved to see it happen.

As to splitting the semis -- would they get higher revenue with 2 (supposed) sell outs?

But (as I recall), when the the semis/finals were at Norwich, we paid double for for the first night - So there were two sell outs of Krietzberg, instead of a a sell out at Krietzberg and a sell out at smaller venue. As they said Alice in Wonderland, "off with their heads!"

Double the price? But the non-Norwich game you could shoot off a cannon (hint hint) in the barn and not hit anyone.

I was always there - and the place was a bit empty, but I remember paying $10.00 for Friday and $5.00 for Saturday. The real risk to revenue came if NU didn't win on Friday afternoon. No walk up sales then.

However, I just loved the atmosphere and everything that goes with a four team two day tournament. The only thing that would replace it would be to make the semis and finals two game series. People who don't understand how the metrics work still think it hurts the league's chances for Pool C (which I still think of as "loser" thinking).

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2013: The Final Countdown...

Redlight offered an opinion tonight on why the ECAC is doing what it is doing.

The Wednesday 1st round game. In years past that would mean 3 games in 5/6 days + travel may make for tired teams.

Along with the thought that the Season was going to end in mid April for the national championship teams....

But since the moved up the semi, they could have the final the next day and then have a week and half of rest before the Wednesday first round game. In any case, I have not say, only opinions about what makes for better competition and drama, which is what sports is all about.
