Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

AFAIK, this is their last year. They had two years to get down to D-III or they are out and after this season will two years.
I think they got a one year extension though 12-13, but I have been known to be wrong in the past.

But, everybody thinks they should go down, but that means that the entire sports program would have to move down (or create a II/III NCC). Nobody has seen or heard of D-II or D-III pushing that option.

But the BTHC (the boogie man of college hockey) may foster the creation of a D-I/II NCC for hockey. Then the Saints (who get an AQ via the NE10) would get their chance to play in an NCAA tournament while not jeopardizing their D-II philosophy.

My Daddy always said "Poop or get off the pot." The Saints and the rest of D-II college hockey have got to get moving.
It's not only the Saints, but the rest of D-II is going to have to come to grips on how they can compete against the money schools.

get moving to where? Remember the DII's did not cause this problem.I t was an unintended? consequence of an action by the NCAA. The schools in question, were not asked for their opinion or did anyone at the NCAA think about their actions and resultant effect.
I think the NCAA should take some responsibility for their actions and offer a "reasonable" solution for appropriate action by membership.
As dues paying members of an association, that should not be unfair or unreasonable request. For most/all of the schools in question, Di is not an option.

Hockey people having been talking about St. A's and St. Mike's droping down to D3 in all sports for years to allow the games to count. There are a lot of issues at play here; first the games don't count (4 games in schedule starting this year) and just my opinion but the D2 status and not being able to qualify for the big time D3 tournament hurts recruiting. The situation is a shame because St. A's with his outstanding hockey arena as a D3 school would probable bring its game up to the level of Norwich, Castleton, and Williams, ect. I for one hope St. A's and St. Mike's decide to go D3 in all sports, however, in all my years of following college hockey I have not seen any evidence to support that is what the schools are trying to do. Basketball appears to be king at both of these schools at the expense of hockey.

you are absolutely correct, basketball is king but not for the reason at the aforementioned schools as you might suspect. The NE -10 or 16 was formed, was and is a scholarship basketball conference .It has morphed into a conference for all sports, including basketball but excluding hockey. It is a rogue conference, ie. there are no rules in the conference.Schools are free to give scholarships in any sport according to NCAA regulations that is why a school like LeMoyne college gives lacrosse scholarships and St.Mike's does not. The problem with reclassifying is that if you leave a league you must find another league(s) for all sports.
the schools are not going to reclassify for hockey in a league that is hockey specific, without having a viable option for joining a league for other sports.
From a financial standpoint right now DI is not an option. That may change but not in the next couple of years.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I am very impressed by Norwich's new schedule after the breakup of the interlock. I remember the old days when Norwich and Middlebury used to play UVM on a yearly basis. D3 hockey has improved over the last 10-15 years so it will be interesting to see how competitive Norwich is with Dartmount and Trois-Rivieres, 2 good US and Canadian D1 teams. Also have to wonder if the games will lead to other D3 teams like Oswego, Plattsburgh, and Elmira playing D1 teams like St. Lawrence, RPI, RIT, and Clarkson. Tournamant teams are also impressive.

Trois-Rivieres was Princeton's warmup game before they played Morrisville last year - it was a close game.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Three Rivers beat UVM a few years ago too.

No doubt Norwich has an absolutely brutal opening two games to get the Cadets ready for the 2011-12 season.

I wish Oswego had those 2 games to open with.....they have yet to let out who they are opening with, correct?? I can only hope they have more bite than the Rattlers last yr.

Charlie

Well the nephew is at FLC. Golf Team.

Is PLSGT Crosby related to you?

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Im not here to pump tires, but I must admit I am really impressed with Norwich and its obvious Dartmouth respects them as well. The amount of pro players that come out of Norwich are far better than most Atlantic schools.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

no relation, send me your nephews name again and I will look him up

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Can't seem to find the D-III Players in the Pros thread. Norm?

This still fits quite well in this thread though.

Phil Aucoin signs deal with ECHL's Reading Royals

Alas, the cash starved USCHO can no longer afford the cost of maintaining the achieve beyond 24 months from the thread creation date, therefore, the thread you want(http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?58902-D3-Players-in-the-Pros/page1) is no longer available
