Since no one else wanted to comment I might as well drop back in and let you know the new Norwich Sports Information Director will be Mark Adkins. He has been at Wartburg College in Iowa for the past ten years and is a very solid hire. He should do a good job at Norwich and I think you will all be pleased.

We're very excited to have him on our staff.

"Wanting to" does not mean "is able to".

Yeah, some people like keeping their jobs. There are things that are more important than an online message board ;)

EDIT: But I should say this, as well: Thank you for letting us know the news NorthernBlight. It is indeed appreciated. It would be better, though, if you could do it without the attitude. :)

Norwich Announces Sports Information Staff for 2011-12

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University is pleased to announce its 2011-12 sports information department staff effective July 1, 2011.

Karen McGrath, vice president of enrollment management and communications, announced earlier today that Mark Adkins would be joining the staff as the Sports Information Director effective July 1st and wants to personally and professionally thank Charlie Crosby ’63 for serving as the interim director for the 2010-11 academic year upon the departure of Christian Anderson in September 2010.

“Charlie stepped up in true Norwich fashion at a crucial time in the athletic season, provided leadership to the department and not only maintained sports information but advanced Norwich Athletics,” McGrath said.

Crosby, who will be entering his seventh year as a member of the department, will still be on the staff next year as the Associate SID.

Derek Dunning will return for his second year at Norwich as an assistant SID and Matt Albury will return for his second year as the SID intern.

Norwich University sponsors 20 NCAA Division III varsity athletic programs including national championship hockey programs. Adkins and the rest of his staff will facilitate communication between the teams and the sports reporting media.

Welcome Mark ... congrats Charlie, Prezde and Matt!

Charlie / Derek

What time are the Saturday games for the 11/12 season?

Hasn't been announced yet. But I haven't heard anything saying 7pm so I would assume 4. From a business standpoint it would benefit Norwich to have the saturday games at 7 pm IMHO.

From the ECAC East Manual

Member institutions will play each other twice during the regular season with the home
site alternating (except for travel partners). League weekends will be the first, second
and third weekends of November, first weekend of December and six weekends prior to
the league tournament. A travel partner (Bylaws 3.2) system will be used in drafting the
schedule. Travel partners play a home-home series during the second half of the year.
The “travel partner” weekend will remaining open for non-conference scheduling
during the first half of the year. (Adopted 2010, Effective 2011-12)

and

League games are scheduled on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. All scheduled
league games require a minimum of 20 hours between start times. When back-to-back
dates are used in the schedule, the time of the first game takes precedence and sets the
tone for the scheduled time of the second game.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Looks like the rules are the rules ... but it would boost attendance SUBSTANTIALLY if Norwich had Saturday night home games ... SUBSTANTIALLY!!!

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I thought that with the end of the Interlock, the Powers That Be may have rewritten that chapter.

We can only hope.

It appears that what was to be rewritten was rewritten - the section about the schedule and practice dates, etc. were rewritten last August. That one wasn't touched.

Tornado warning in your area???? Be safe.

I thought it was A watch, not a warning but we had a heck of a thunderstorm - didn't knock out the internet :)

Edited to add:
I was out, didn't hear about the warning until I got back in. The hail was remarkable...(see I remarked about it, so that makes it, by definition, remarkable :D)

My daughter just phoned in from Ohio to make sure that we were okay after she heard about all the damage in Central Vermont. Somehow that seems like role reversal - usually we worry about them.

By definition, it would have to have been markable before it could be remarkable ;)

Agreed 100%.

I looked at the numbers quickly and on average Norwich drew 200-300 more fans on Friday nights than Saturday afternoons. That's a lot of potential money going out the window. But, not much Norwich can do if the rest of the league wants the games at 4 p.m. if that is indeed the case.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Does the additional revenue from 200-300 tickets offset the additional cost of another night in a hotel for the visiting team? I imagine that's the draw for the schools...if the game is done at 5 or 6, they can drive home. If the game isn't getting over til 9 or 10, it's not as feasible to drive 3+ hours home. Who knows?

All teams drive home on Saturday night regardless of time in the leagues that currently use that format.

The SUNYAC and ECAC West schools do it all the time without spending a Saturday night in a hotel room and the travel is pretty comparable.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Getting back late a couple of weekends a winter is not that big a deal .... Saturday night games at Kreitzberg would be HUGE!
Just do it ... what are they going to do ... boot Norwich out of the league?
