Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Here is a question / thought that may be worth some discussion. With Norwich playing one non counting game as a scrimmage and 4 games against D-2 schools will their SOS suffer like Castleton's this year? Or will the lack of "non-counting" games potentially hurt their chances etc.... I know it is all about the AQ but they will only have 20 games that will count this year with 2 against UNE, NEC, SME all teams that were not great last year.

Could this mean something later?

I've said this before in other threads: teams like Norwich, SNC, Midd, etc, etc play for conference championships and Pool A bids. I don't think they are too concerned with setting up their schedule in a certain fashion so as if they fail in one of their goals they still have a shot at a "safety net" in a Pool C bid. They are concerned with playing against the best competition they can to put them in the best position to win in March. I'm not saying these schools would turn their noses up at a Pool C bid should they get beat in their respective conference tourneys, but you know what I'm saying...

Exactly. Pool C is for losers (Except for the ECAC W moving forward). It's nice if you get it, but if you do it means you failed in your primary mission. I know the Norwich Women's team won a NC after getting a Pool C, but that's just good fortune. In the years when NU didn't win and didn't get a Pool C, I have not been upset about it.

didnt Oswego win the Nc after a pool C??

It's possible that they did, but I'm not a fan of bending your schedule just to chase it. It's like planning to lose.

I'm pretty sure Neumann did too.

I still pretty certain the coaches from the top schools aren't thinking about how to position themselves for a Pool C bid when scheduling. They just want to play against other top schools in preparation for NCAA's...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

When does the 2011 - 2012 schedule come out? I'm looking forward to the Dartmouth preseason game, just 45 minutes from the house.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Has there been any progress or an update on the search for a new SID at Norwich? It's a pretty high profile Division 3 position that should attract a lot of serious candidates. If Wick is in the business of recruiting might I offer a few suggestions.

Sean Hladick (umass Lowell)
Ryan Somers and Nich Hall (uvm)
Tommy Szarka (Clarkson)
Dan Lukes (St. Norbert)

The first four are all current assistant SIDs but all are young and motivated and have proven capable of doing excellent work. All four also have handled hockey at the Division I level which might be a major bonus as hockey is obviously a very high profile program for the Cadets. Lukes is the only d3 guy on the list but that could be helpful because hes familiar with d3 and does very good work and could definitely be an asset for a very elite institution at this level. I think any of the five would be great fits in Northfield and would do a tremendous job on behalf of the univeristy.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I've posted dabbles here and there. I don't have the okay to release the full yet.

Usually they hold it until the Alan Doyle Classic - in the past, we could fill in the conference schedule based on history - the interlock schedule went on a four year cycle years one and two switch sites, keep days the same - years three and four same as 1 and 2, except swap days. Now with the interlock dead, we have more to figure out.

If I get the okay to release before then I surely will. :)

Norwich held its annual Senior Athlete Recognition Dinner last night at Milano Ballroom.

Chad Anderson of the men's hockey team and Cindy Fortin of the women's hockey team were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Fortin also won the Female Scholar Athlete Award for having the highest GPA of all senior athletes at Norwich.

Since no one else wanted to comment I might as well drop back in and let you know the new Norwich Sports Information Director will be Mark Adkins. He has been at Wartburg College in Iowa for the past ten years and is a very solid hire. He should do a good job at Norwich and I think you will all be pleased.

Does he want to buy a house in Northfield? I know where he can get a nice one, not very far from campus. :)
