Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

you are absolutely correct, basketball is king but not for the reason at the aforementioned schools as you might suspect. The NE -10 or 16 was formed, was and is a scholarship basketball conference .It has morphed into a conference for all sports, including basketball but excluding hockey. It is a rogue conference, ie. there are no rules in the conference.Schools are free to give scholarships in any sport according to NCAA regulations that is why a school like LeMoyne college gives lacrosse scholarships and St.Mike's does not. The problem with reclassifying is that if you leave a league you must find another league(s) for all sports.
the schools are not going to reclassify for hockey in a league that is hockey specific, without having a viable option for joining a league for other sports.
From a financial standpoint right now DI is not an option. That may change but not in the next couple of years.

How much longer is the ECAC East going to keep St. A's and St. Michaels if the schools continue to compete at the NCAA Div. II level?

I believe they've been given a timetable to poop or get off the pot.

Funny thing is, if the Saints and the NE-10 work together, they have a solution that would require no change to any of their programs.

4 NE-10 schools play @ Division I
6 NE-10 schools play @ Division III
NCAA rules permit a D-II school to play in the D-I championship if there is no D-II championship in that sport.
6 conference teams gives you an AQ.

Granted there would be wailing in Lowell and Andover if the NE-10 forms a conference, and the solution would involve a lot of soul searching on 10 college campuses, but it would work within the existing NCAA framework.

In the meantime, the Saints are running out of paper.

Updated where the Kyle Thomas video was since it's no longer on the athletics home page for anyone who didn't get a chance to see it.

The boys are slowly filtering back to school....stay tuned.
come on Prez out with who you have hiding in the wings........or is it a recruit FROM the wings??? Recruits should be on campus soon so we will know who NU has up its dress uniform sleeve.......

Okay. I'll be the one to ask. Who's not coming back that should be?

Those eight additions make 17 Forwards, 10 D, and 5 Goalies. So, they either put more lockers in the dressing room, or there are four or more guys missing from last years' team.

I'd assume one or two of the goalies will not be back.

Safe assumption. Let's say that two are gone. That still leaves a roster of 30, which NU has never had since there aren't that many places in the dressing room. A couple of more guys must have left. I'm not trying to start up the attrition conversation again. I'm just wondering who won't be there, that's all.

I'm fine, lots of damage around Northfield, though. I feel extremely lucky - everything high and dry here a couple of puddles in my basement.

I did notice that one of the Vermont papers reported that Norwich Cadets were helping evacuate people from some apartments downtown.
