Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Today's Times Argus reported that Castleton Spartans football facility was damaged by flooding from the storm. Castleton is playing Plymouth State this weekend whoes football facility was reportable also under water. This relates to hockey since the Plymouth football field is next to the new hockey facility. I am not sure of the status of the rink but a lot of the buildings in the flood plan are built up on account of flooding.

I understand that there was a lot of damage from the dog river and other brooks around town. Lets hope everyone safe and able to rebuild.

Can you even get to Rutland? I was reading that a lot of the roads in that area are washed out?

Per Charlie C and a note from President Schneider the damage to the campus itself at NU was minimal ... some damage down at the rugby field ...
Serious damage all around Northfield however ... Rt 12 to the North and 12a to the South of town both are cut off ... the only way into town is I-89 and then down in from there ... severe damage in Northfield Falls ... including those beautiful covered bridges ...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I was sad to move from Northfield earlier this summer, but now I am very glad we weren't there. My house (which was for sale on Water Street) was basically destroyed, but we had none of our belongings inside, so we're very lucky there. Had we still lived there, it would have been a much different story. One part that is really bothering me is that I'm not there to help get things cleaned up. I've had a major case of survivor's guilt all week while talking to my neighbors and seeing the pictures and videos online and on the news.

I keep thinking about my 4 year old and how the flood waters would have destroyed most, if not all, of his toys and am very thankful that he doesn't have to go through what we would be going through if we were there. As for all of the people that are still there, my heart has broken for them as they were my friends and neighbors for the 3 years that we lived in that house and did so much for me and my family.

I live in the Falls. Walked up to the bridges yesterday. The first bridge is okay, and open to traffic. The second bridge is closed, although the structure itself looks like it survived. The third bridge has a tree through it, and the pavement on the approach from the Moretown side is now about 2 feet wide with the rest of it eroded. This means that you can't go up Cox brook road.

Northfield Schools are closed because of the fact that busses can't get to the kids.

All of the bridges at the Norhtfield golf course are gone. Golf course in Randolph has 6 1/2 playable holes. The remaining holes are either inaccessable or covered with river silt.

Today's Barre/Montpelier Times Argus reported that the Norwich Mountain and Cold Weather Rescue Company were on the scene assisting with evacuations, rescues, and crowd control during the flood. Reportable 37 menber of the team were involved in the rescue in the flood area. I am a little familar with water rescue and any type of water rescue can be very dangerous. Very impressive action by this group of Cadets.

Prez and Charlie

Was listening to the Caps - Blue Jackets game this PM and Columbus has a cannon that goes off after a goal. Sounded loud, but not too loud.

Yeah I knew they had one. We're definitely still looking to add this into the goal score announcement procedure.

Good question -- I think i will, though i'm kind of on the fence. I only watched 2 of their games all year, the NCAA Semis and Finals. I need to see a picture of it first regardless.

Off topic, but how are the renovations coming to the Cadets' rink? Will they be done this year?

EDIT: I now see you were talking about the bathrooms from another thread.

That was done last year with the addition of Doyle Hall.

I'm sure you'll be impressed. It's a very nice area to help connect the athletic building to the arena as well as help with traffic flow a little bit on the concourse so now people have a different place to go and get food and go to the bathroom.

I notice that one of the assistant coaches is named Cap Raeder. Is it "thee" Cap Raeder from UNH and who's son was a goalie at Middlebury a few seasons ago? If so, an excellent goalie coach. :)

That's the one! :)

Also, here is a link to a nice story on former Norwich men's hockey player Martin Moucha who is still keeping his pro dreams kicking.
