Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

The first period was the best I've seen from the Cadets all season. Unfortunately give-aways in our own zone are still our undoing. It might not be the worst thing if the off-season started today, and some time were spent examining what we could do better as a team.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

wowwwwie, that one stung. A little careless in our own end and seemed to lose our legs in the third a tad. Still love seeing the effort from the Cadets. Trying to not let my emotions get the best of me but the slash at the end was pretty dirty, but that player for Babson will have to live with that I suppose. Was like a recurring nightmare seeing Babson celebrate in Kreitzberg. Gotta give it to them though, great team and a big comeback win.

Also give it to the Cadets for not making it too ugly at the end, I believe it was Bryce that was ready to jump into the sea of green to throw down but glad they refrained and stayed back...credit to the refs at making sure of that. Tough way to lose but its a fun group to watch and we will see if we get bumped to the dance tomorrow, but if not it has been a fun season to watch.

Anyone know where Duszynski was? Had a feeling he might have been playing hurt a couple weeks ago but was surprised to not see him tonight.

We definitely DO get the award for most unproductive shots on goal in a season.

I finally got video from NSN during the 2nd intermission. Maybe I shouldn't have. :(

I'm not sure whether or not Norwich will get a Pool C bid. It is possible, but it would not be a surprise if they didn't. That's what happens if you don't get the job done yourself.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Normally the Cadets create more buzz in the 3rd period, but they sure did not tonight. Maybe the flu is hitting other players. not just Duszynski. I am not sure what happened at the end of the third, but it was bad enough to temporarily cripple our player (Niezgoda?) and if the Babson Coach knows about it, he will handle it appropriately. I wouldn't want to support a team that believes in cheap shots in the last seconds of the game and then celebrates right in front of the "victim" who is rolling on the ice in pain. Babson has a good team, but some players don't use good judgement.

+1 Duszynski was out with the flu. That slash at the end was awful.

While I would be thankful for any at-large bid, I am really hoping for a repeat of last year and hosting Babson at Kreitzberg next weekend. Given how evenly these two teams have played each other over the past two seasons a rematch would be sweet.

Cheap shot to Niezgoda ... then the Babson D-Man flips the net over in the zone not far from where he was lying on the ice ... sorry but to me that was bush

I'd love to see NU get Babson again too but I'm afraid if they do meet again this season it will either be at Babson or in Maine ...

As to the chance they keep playing? Hope I'm wrong but I'm guessing the odds are 70-30 against. 10 pm tomorrow night ... then we'll see.

When Babson scored moments into the 3rd period, Puck Voice reminded his listeners, that goal was that first goal the Beavers had posted against the Cadets in 11 periods of hockey (3.66 games). That also translates into 11 periods of shut out hockey for Chris Czardnota against Babson. Congratulations Chris.:)

But what a remarkable rollercoaster season that included great highs and more than too many head scratching lows. But regardless of what happens now with the NCAA selection committee—we were well served by a wonderful team—mostly represented by a talented class of 15 freshmen. Near term they might move on into the NCAA but if they don’t they have a great deal to be proud of for what they got done—and surely for what they bring to our program next year.

I am not sure what exactly happen in those closing seconds but fighting is neither team’s style. If Puck Voice called that Babson hit bush league—you can bank it. No excuses for that because Babson has always played a very tough disciplined game and always given the Cadets headaches. For us old guys, Middlebury is a great rival, just as Castleton is for younger alum…but Babson for a very long time has always given as good as they have taken as any rival I can think of. Congratulations to Babson. Congratulations to Norwich.

+1

Babson is a great program but the ending seconds and celebration thereafter were a poor showing of how their program usually handles themselves. Glad that no more nonsense occurred but I personally liked seeing Bryce and a few other Cadets pretty fired up about it and ready to back their teammate up. I think I would have been a little disappointed if there was no reaction after that brutal slash. As my Dad said last night...for a slash like that at the end of a tight, hard fought game there has to be something more than just a penalty being written in the books. NHL would be reviewing this play and dishing out a suspension possibly.

Either way, I think every Cadet on that ice and fan at Kreitzberg last night wants to see Babson again. The odds are against us, but we shall see what way lady luck swings tonight. Either way a great team and the thing I love most about them is that if they got the pleasure of meeting Babson again, I know they'd come out on fire and skate twice as hard as the last two Babson meetings...if that is even physically possible. This team doesn't quit, and that is something we all gotta love.

I have noticed that as well, in the box score many times Norwich doubles their opponents in shots but the goals are close.

All Cadet fans should have their purple and white on today rooting for Amherst. Getting The Lord Jeff's ranked would put Norwich's best foot forward for their Pool C resume.

Watching the game I thought the Cadets had a lot of good looks but failed to finish. As coach Mike McShane stated in today's Times Argus Norwich just does not have the finishers this year. It seemed Babson was content to play defensive with there great goaltending and wait for a few chances to open up. Actually I thought Babson had a few chances in the first period but the passes failed to connect. I would be interested hear why Murray didn't get a D1 offer since he is one of the best D1 or D3 goaltenders I have seen.

But NCAA or not I enjoyed the season and looking forward to following the Cadets team building in the offseason and watch the team next year. I don't know the attendance but it would a very big crowd last night.

Totally out of character compared to what I've seen from Babson over the years. It was a shame to see that take place.

+1 It has been interesting to see the greater parity in the ECAC East over the past couple years. The quality of the hockey has really improved. Even cellar dwellers are capable of surprising the top teams on any given night (like St. Mike's surprised Babson a couple weeks ago).

No matter what happens tonight, 2013-2014 was a great reboot year for the Cadets.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

I think all Cadets' fans would love to have another shot at the Beavers but why would the game be at K'berg? Babson is once again the ECAC-East playoff champs. I know Norwich beat them twice in the regular season but this is a new season.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

And another thing or two: it seems strange to me that Norwich seems to out-shoot the opposition 2 -3 to 1 but when they have the man advantage they simply pass the puck around and seldom shoot. What is THAT about? I never get too excited when they go on the power-play because I know it will be a waste of 2 minutes of game time. They go right back to shooting (and seldom scoring) as soon as the opponent gets out of the penalty box. Or am I dreaming this up? Other people who sit around me have noticed the same things.

Norwich is hoping just to be in at this point...

Agree. The thing I'm having trouble understanding is if Babson ends up being seeded #1 in the East as some people expect, given that Norwich and Babson were so even all season, how can Norwich not end up with an at-large bid?
