I think most NU fans while saddened by the loss Saturday night came away feeling that with those 15 freshmen maturing during the off season that NU would come back in fine shape for the 2014-15 campaign.
Surprise…surprise…NU is going to the NCAA dance. Lots of theories on how they made it and some day when I have an eternity of time to kill someone can explain how the NCAA arrives at the selection of non-conference championship teams. So far when others try to explain it to me....it all just comes across like the plot to a 19th Century Russian novel. I am just very happy but confused.
Sadly Plattsburg did not make it. I saw all the NU games this year and honestly thought the Cards were the most thoroughly put together team I saw at ever level. They are disappointed no doubt—but it is clear the NCAA could not reasonable put three SUNYAC teams into the playoffs. I get it. But I am not sure the Cards do.
Meanwhile, Trinity went from NCAA’s #1 top dog in the East to zip. And I cannot believe that Bowdoin’s showing both against the Bantam on Saturday which I watched.....followed by their win on Sunday against Amherst didn’t in the end bury Trinity's chances for a bid. I have been wondering—and maybe the NCAA has been as well--whether the NESCAC is not as competitive as it once was...or by comparison to the ECAC-E. In other words, did the NESCAC leaving the interlock with the ECAC-E—hurt them in the eyes of the NCAA? That is all behind us and for smarter folks than me to figure out.
I am just happy that the Cadets have blessed twice now---first by that St. Mike’s late season tie against Babson and now in the form of a chance to play for the NCAA title
My advice? Seize the day! My wish? An NCAA title game against Babson.
But first things first—beat Salem State and move forward one at a time. Go Cadets. Good luck.
