Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

Thanks for the report Puck Voice. Is Tanner Acebo busy with something else Friday night or is he not doing color this season. I think I heard at the end of last season that he had other opportunities for 2014-15. I am sure Cory will do a great job, but Tanner's shoes will be tough to fill. Sure am glad you aren't going anywhere!

Speaking of being missed Cory Gustafson move from the Norwich coaching staff to the radio booth will be a loss for the coaching staff. From all reports he was a very good coach and did a great job.

Puckvoice could you give us a little insight of the goalie play against St. Jerome on Sunday. I am curious how the two highly rated goalie recruits did.

The desirable situation right along has been to have one person working all of the men's hockey games with me. Tanner is staying very busy creating outstanding video for the Norwich website and doing other things in the SID office and has been handling play by play for soccer this fall ... this winter he'll be on NU basketball and will also be doing most of the PBP on women's hockey. All of that occupies so much of his time that when Cory expressed an interest in working the full men's hockey schedule it just seemed like a natural fit.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Looking at the NSN network, it seems that the game tonight is not being Webcast! No mention on their schedule, plus a lot of looping back to home page. :mad:I hope they get this straightened out today before game time. I'm assuming if all else fails, we can listen on WDEV webcast.

Not on NSN tonight only on WDEV

Re: Norwich 14-15

Official statement on this matter:

"The Plymouth State game and the UNE game on Nov. 15 are the two men's hockey games that will not be video streamed.

We are not streaming two men's and two women's hockey games this year.

This decision was made with not only budget in mind but mainly as an experiment to see if attendance might increase since the game wouldn't be video streamed for free. During the Blue Line Club end of year meeting the point was brought up that video streaming might be having an adverse affect on attendance and people actually coming to games.

We're intrigued to see the attendance numbers for both games and see if they are higher than what they have traditionally been for that opponent.

At least we'll be able to begin to get a sample of data on whether video streaming is a major impact on attendance or not."

EDIT: Also, the direct link to the WDEV radio broadcasts have now been added to each game for the season on the Norwich Athletics website.

Ah - the Bill Wirtz Theory.

Thank you for the kind words, it was a fun ride while it lasted. Cory will do a great job and will provide some insight into the team that we might not usually get as he was on the bench for the last few seasons. I'm looking forward to watching this season as a spectator and you can expect a lot more scoring updates/posts from me on the board moving forward. I am very excited for my new roles both here at Norwich, and with NSN broadcasting our Women's Hockey games.

That is a real dis-service to those of us who can't be at the games due to living in places a long way from Vermont. Also statistically, to pick opening night as a sample is a poor choice. A sample should represent typical data, and opening night is not a typical date.

Even the NFL finally gave up local blackouts, and now you're blacking out the whole country.

It is a bummer, but I get it...attendance hasn't been where it was in the early-mid 00's, so something needs to be done to drive revenues up. Thankfully we still get George on wdevradio.com. Also thankfully I have season tickets to DU this year, and BC is in town this weekend. Cheers to slutty freshman Halloween costumes!

Re: Norwich 14-15

Congrats Cadets, nice first win of the season. I couldn't make the game, but listened to it on WDEV. For anyone who was at the game, care to share your impressions of this young team? It would be easy to say they are great by the 9-1 score, but I am sure there is some work to be done offensively and defensively. From George and Cory's comments, it sounds like we have a good new D man in Brandrup, and as in past seasons, the whole team seemed well conditioned. We only took 3 penalties, but still need to work on the Power Play (2 for 6 ??) All in all, seems like a good start to 2014-15.

Re: Norwich 14-15

1,256 - I don't think the blackout made a difference. Granted 'tis the season of HS football playoffs and the like, plus this game was pretty much a no doubter.

You know what? We're spoiled. There used to be nothing, then the internet, then streaming audio, now video. I want my cake, Edith!

With Pelletier and Niezgoda out of the lineup with injuries, I didn't expect a 9-1 win tonight in a million years so count me as pleasantly surprised tonight.

It looked like a typical Norwich victory tonight. Outshoot the other team like crazy, posess the puck, limit their shots, and pound them away by rolling 4 well conditioned lines.

Only 10 shots against with all the new bodies in the lineup? Impressive.

Brandrup was very impressive on defense.

The Piacentini, Surowiec, Pichette line was the story. Lot of good chemistry and puck movement with a good blend of speed, size and grit.

Piacentini was opportunistic equaling his entire goal total from his freshman season in just one game. Pichette with 3 assists and Surowiec with 2 goals.

I liked what I saw from ostepchuk in goal even though it was limited chances. He looked calm and collected and the goal he have up he really couldn't do much on. Initial shot was blocked and then a quick shot right after didn't leave him much chance.

It's one game but it's still one win and in impressive fashion. Norwich's speed and conditioning were the difference in the end. I don't know if 9-1 is quite indicative of the game. It was 2-1 midway through the game.

Looking forward to next Friday and the league opener against what should be a very pesky St. mike's team that could be ripe for an upset.

That used to be the norm against most low-mid calibre opponents. They could hang close in the first period or period and a half, and then because of the bigger ice and not-so-good conditioning they would noticeably run out of gas.

Re: Norwich 14-15

On a side note:Chris Duszynski off to a good start with Colorado in the ECHL - played in all 7 games and has 5 points (3g,2a).
